Hey, it's that time again.. just curious as to what your plans are this year for New Year's? Misty and I are hoping to hit a couple casinos (free drinks!) but we may just stay home so we can tip a few to ring in the New Year safely.
The usual for us is to go see band at whatever bar happens to have something good. Sometimes we stop in at couple different places before the night is done. We will be home by the wee hours of the morning. 2 or 3 am is the usual time to roll into bed. I think some years it's been later yet.
We aren't into going out for fancy dinners on New Year's since we know the restaurants are always crowded. We save our money for the bar that night by eating something simple at home. Usually have a good time, but there has been a couple of boring New Year's in the past. I'm more about the fun than the fancy stuff. I have to be where the action is.
In years past, Cindy (my old GF) and I would go to the local casinos for the night.. this year, Misty and I were planning on going the same route (free champagne, t-shirts, party hats!) but we'll most likely end up staying home rather than find a sitter for Krystal, etc.
The kids and I are planning on going to my daughter's house and spending it with her and my grandson making snacks and playing games. We turn it into a long fun family night each year. We always watch the ball drop in New York on T.V. at 11:00 and then make it to midnight before going home. Usually at least one of the kids spends the night.
Are you all planning a midnight toast of champagne? It's probably one of the few times of the year I do drink..
We don't drink, especially with teens around. We will sometimes pop open a bottle of the sparkling white grape drink they sell that looks like Champagne.
I prefer Asti Spumante.. an old girlfriend from the 80's got me started on that.. and I never drink to excess. For one, my stomach wouldn't allow it..

I love Asti Spumante too. I always have a bottle in the fridge for when friends come over. I recently discovered one grocery store sells the little bottles in a four pack. Just the right amount per person that way.
For New Year's eve, some friends usually come over for snacks and a few drinks and then we play cards or board games until after midnight. This year my son has to go to work at 5:00 on New Year's day so I'm sure he won't be staying up late. Plus, he's not a drinker and frowns at us if we drink more than just a few. He will be 21 in a couple months and says he still isn't going to drink after that. However, my oldest son said he is going to "get wasted" on New Years eve, so I guess he won't be working on Friday.

Boy, things have changed since we were that age. I remember we couldn't wait to turn of age to go to the bars. That was back when it was 18 to drink. Then again who waited until 18?
Does anyone toast with toast? Would be hilarious if a bar started to throw out toast to people at midnight to see if they get the joke.
Now that would be a crummy bar!
{8^)
Happy New Year 2010!!!!!

....Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It didn’t take too long to find out
Just what he was talkin’ about
A lot of people don’t have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks ’n’ knives
And they gotta cut somethin’....

Yes, I remember those days...
I think good educational information about the perils of smoking and drinking at a young age, DUI info, movies on accidents when drinking, taught at schools now has helped change alot of teens minds now for the better. And the fact that there is so much for kids to do now then back then. Nothing to do everyone just hit the bars when they turned old enough.
EDUCATION is the key word in today's world. Back in the day when I was a teen there was so little research or info on alcohol abuse, or drinking and driving, what smoking did to your lungs etc. It was just the thing to do to grab a cigarette and a drink when you got older. I remember it was even allowed for kids to go out in the parking lots between classes in high school to catch a smoke before the next class. (I didn't smoke then or now).
My teens are very much against smoking, drinking or drugs and I am so grateful they feel that way. I also think the fact that I never allowed drinking at our home while they grew up helped form their idea on it also. It has alot to do in the environment I think.
Of course this is just my thoughts...and nothing against those that wish to live differently. It is just what works for us.
I remember having the anti-drug movies and people coming into high school to speak about it. I also remember having the smoke-out weeks and wearing anti-smoking pins. I can't remember what was said about drinking, probably more about drinking and driving. I even remember getting the Art Linkletter movies and coloring books in grade school. At that age I thought if you did drugs you just saw monsters lol. Scaring little kids like that hahaha.
My mom was a barmaid for years.. consequently, I have no interest in anything more than a casual drink now and then and never go to a bar just to drink. I do like sports bars and Irish pubs for their atmosphere tho and don't mind going in for a meal if they also serve food.
