Do you burn a Yule Log?

I have heard the term for years and never gave it any thought until this year. I googled"Yule Log" and this is what I found.
The Yule Log

I say let it burn 24/7 364 1/2 days and then start another one

I don't know what a Yule log is unless I google it. I've heard of it, but that's all I know is a couple of word and not the meaning.

When I was growing up we had a beautiful field stone fireplace that my Father and Mom built when they built the house. I just remember that each year on Christmas Eve we always had to have a big fire going in the fireplace while we all sat around and opened our presents from each other.

I had no idea if my Mom did this because of a tradition of the Yule Log or not but it was like a tradition to me that we had the fire going. I use to love to just sit and watch the fire and listen to it crackling.
