Marine Toys For Tots Program

Last year, 97 cents out of every dollar went directly to provide toys for needy children.. only 3 cents per dollar went to pay for fundraising activities. You can drop off toys for this program at a variety of locations, including ToyRUs. Visit the local (Wisconsin) website to find out how you can donate toys to the Marine Toys for Tots program.

There is a similar program in our county that is called "Smiles For a Child". It is sponsored by the Ithaca Lions Club and the Hombres Motorcycle Club every year in mid November. They have a fundraiser at the local American Legion and charge $10 to get in or $5 if you bring a new toy for a child. The admission includes free food and beer and a d.j. plays until midnight. They also sell raffle tickets and have an auction of bigger items that were donated. This year they raised well over $4,000 and all of it goes to buy toys for needy kids. The members of the clubs buy the toys which are then distributed by the Richland County Jaycees from a list they receive from the Health and Human Services Department.

If you know of someone in the Richland County area that is in need of toys for their children for Christmas, you can have them contact the Health and Human Services Department at 647-8821.

I also try to give to the Salvation Army programs during the Holidays..
