We've been invited to Misty's clients for Thanksgiving..
I think her kids will be spending it with their dad. I'm going to suggest she go spend it with them too.. I think she'd like to spend the day with the kids.
We always cook a huge meal with 2 turkeys and every trimming we love including homemade apple pies, pumpkin pies, cream cheese pies the list goes on. Oh how we eat sooo good for days on the leftovers.
It's a really big fun family meal that we are grateful we are able to do each year.
We will have the traditional Thanksgiving dinner at my house on Thanksgiving day but only a small part of my family will be here. My son is bringing his college room mate home for the weekend and since he is from Germany, I want to show him how we celebrate the holiday here. Our big family get-together will be on Saturday at my brother's house. Everyone will be there and I'm sure there will be plenty of good food and good company that day!
The kids will be going to Arkansas with their dad.. I bought a turkey for Misty and I and we'll most likely hit a movie (New Moon) or the casino after..
It looks like we might be having our big family Thanksgiving dinner at our house instead of my brother's on Saturday. His MIL is in bad shape and my SIL may have to go help take care of her mom that day. I'm sure glad I did all this cleaning now that I may have a house full of company after all!
Thanksgiving, should be called "Thankstaking". The celebration of when Europeans began taking everything from the Native Americans.
The "Europeans" came here to escape religious and political persecution. The indigenous folk of this land were included in the first Thanksgiving Feast and Celebration.
The "Europeans" included their new friends to show thanks to them for the support in survival in this "New World".

You would think as a mother, of small children, she wouldn't need to have someone suggest it & would do it on her own... she doesn't seem to be a very good mother, considering all you have said about her up to now, so i suppose that fits.
LOL @ Turkey farts... I never knew Turkey caused gas... Maybe i'm the only one who it doesn't effect that way?
a couple years ago i was asked how i could eat so much cucumber, when it causes gas... Again... maybe i'm the only one?

Sounds wonderful....sister.
Is that enough to get invited?!

Like MrKhay says above, the fist started well, before the mother of injustices.

...turkey farts, Blue...really?
Have a good one!
Good to see you, Latina.
Like Carol, I'll be working and doing some of my favorite forum posting, except for a great meal this afternoon at the SIL's and BIL's.

Sorry Latina but unless you are walking in Misty's shoes or at least near the situation and actually hear her side too, isn't that a bit harsh to judge her as 'not a good mother'. Nothing against you Dave, but we are only reading what your thoughts are.
I'm guessing it must be difficult for her at this time of the year. Isn't this the first year since she has been separated from her husband or maybe the second? It's difficult when 2 people with kids, divorce. So many things go on, you want to be with your kids but how if the father has them? You don't want to spend the time with 'him' and most likely your former In Laws. And then there's trying to make your new b/f happy too. Then there's the new working world that she has stepped in to. I remember you saying a while back she really was struggling to get back into a job. Now that she has, maybe she is trying to fit in there too.
I am guessing some of what you wrote about her going to her clients came from the fact that you didn't want to go. But then you mentioned that her husband was going to be gone the whole weekend in Arkansas, did you really want her gone all weekend with him? But in the end, sounds like you two are going to be together and a meal and movie. Now you sound better.
Then there's times when you say she is working totally long hours every day that she is tired and upset that she can't see her kids enough. But she is trying to get extra money for Christmas. Sounds like a caring parent to me.
When her little one was ill, you made her sound very devoted too.
So one has to take all the stories you write and try to understand that again, we are hearing one emotional side of a story. Not enough to 'judge' if someone is a good parent or not. IMO.
Oh well, guess that is why people shouldn't write so much about their other half because when you are upset, happy, confused, etc. and you write something than others will perceive the person you are writing about as you write it.
Not a good mom? Maybe a young one, confused one, maybe one that is just trying to finally grow up. But it's hard to put a label of 'not a good mom' when one doesn't even know her except through a b/f.
Anyways..the turkeys are cooking! One at our house and the other at my daughter's house where we will eat today. Pies are done, veggie tray is being made, so much food is getting prepared!
LOL Not sure if your family would appreciate you off eating somewhere else Keith. lol But I can save you some white meat if you want. I'll shove it through the computer tonight if you are on chat.

I can appreciate your insight & can see your point as well pk.
Just that having been a single mom to two kids since i was a teen, i know what it is to struggle for your kids & any mother, single or not, who would suggest not spending a holiday with her kids (especially letting the ex take them out of state a couple days after one just got out of the hospital) is absorb to me & i tend to speak my mind. speaking as a mother who gave up my own life to be with my babies, no matter what, it's sad to hear of a female who isn't stepping up. call it judgmental , i see your point.. it is a judgment call on my part.
I tend to speak out loud, what many email and gossip about off the main forums (i admit my part). Sorry, but as you said, that will happen when you post your (and others) every move online.
Turkey day wasn't so bad here... Hope everyone had a good one!
The other night my husband bought a pumpkin pie from the store. It tasted good, but not quite homemade. Then today I had a piece of my mom's and it was way better. The filling and the crust were so much better than the store.
I also scored 2 squashes from this year's garden bumper crop. I asked and I got them. Haha not turning down free food. Gives me an excuse to try this recipe for whipped squash I saw online.
Well, our German guest thoroughly enjoyed the turkey dinner. I think he said "Mmmm" with almost every bit he had! He also tasted stuffing, baked beans and chocolate pudding pie for the first time which he seemed to have liked since he ate seconds on everything. He even asked if there will be some turkey left to take back to school with him on Sunday. Next he will get to try some deviled eggs, venison sausage and Butterfinger pie at our family gathering on Saturday plus what ever other goodies people bring that day. It's fun to watch his reaction when he tries new things. It kind of reminds me of the first time we gave our kids baby food when they were little. Only Jon hasn't spit anything out...at least not yet anyway. LOL
You didn't make him eat green bean casserole, did you? LOL I don't care for that. I think there needs to be more jokes about green bean casserole like there is with fruit cake.

Nope...no green bean casserole. I actually like green bean casserole but no one hardly ever makes it anymore. My SIL is making some kind of broccoli casserole and a corn casserole for tomorrow. Now, I will probably eat the broccoli one, but I won't touch the corn one. Ick!
BTW Blue...do you make fruit cake? I ran across a recipe the other day for some cake that you put gum drops in and it was similar to a fruit cake. I wouldn't mind fruit cake if they would just leave the fruit out of it.
I find the green bean casserole that is the Campbell's recipe kind of boring. Reminds me of the food we got in grade school only they used mushy beans and tater tots. That wasn't good either. I do have a recipe for a different kind of green bean casserole that uses cheese soup and then stuffing on top. Now that's way better.
I don't like fruit cake. I don't remember anyone making among my relatives. Hubby's family either. I don't like the dried fruits and citron or whatever all the chunks are. Maybe gum drops and candy would be better, but then it would no longer be "fruit" cake.
