We're not handing out anything this year. We just can't afford to buy that much candy (at least 8 bags worth). If we would buy anything it would be the good stuff - no generic candy. Last year we also handed out fliers to our new church the we planted close to our neighborhood.

Handing out church fliers at halloween last year might mean you don't need to buy candy this year anyway... kids will avoid your house & spread the word lol
Nothing against church of course, but kids want the junk food that mom & dad wont give them. Kinda like when i was a kid & we kids warned eachother of which houses gave tooth brushes & fruit, so they could avoid it lol

I meant to say that we handed the fliers out along with the candy. Actually our daughters did. I certainly wouldn't go back to a house that just handed me a piece of boring paper!

I know what you mean... you might wake up to toilet papered trees & eggs splattered on your house/car.
Boxes of raisins, pennies, and licorice snaps - yuck!
LOL, not so good. I eat raisins every now and then, but not in anything and probably every 5-10 years lol. Not big on raisins unless they are yogurt raisins, but those are loaded with sugar and are like eating candy.
Popcorn balls... bleh! I think we threw those styrofoam things out. Apples we threw out because who wants a razor blade in it.
I never liked those Mary Jane candies. Isn't that the taffy things that came in orange or black wrappers.
I'd say overall we got decent candy. Always like the mini candy bars or spree/sweetart candy.
We are never home for Halloween handouts. Have you seen the price of a big bag of candy bars or M&M's lately? I can't believe how much that went up in price.
We saw bags of candy at Walmart for $13.50.. some bags seemed to have doubled in price from their pre-holiday prices.

I saw prices like that, too. That was earlier this year and for the larger bags. I never did the math to see how that compares with regular sized bags. You have to figure out what the price is per ounce to see if the bigger one is cheaper.
I always buy the little treat bags and fill them with Smarties, Tootsie Rolls, Dum Dums, mini Hershey bars, Three Musketeers, Kit Kat, Reese peanut butter cups, and Butterfingers. Lots of sugar for our trick-or-treaters!
I have big bags full of candy to take to my son and his room mate at college this weekend. I'm going to make them both yell "Trick or Treat" before I give them to them though. His room mate is from Germany and he said they don't really do Halloween there but he and three other foreign exchange students from Germany are planning to go to State Street on Halloween to see "the sights" that they've heard so much about. I'm sure they will see lots of strange things there! Has anyone here been to State Street on Halloween before?
I've never done State St. buy heard a lot about it. It's nothing like it used to be from what I've heard. More rules for keeping drunks in line. I've heard some of the best costumes can be found down there. I don't know if it's an outside thing, but that would be too cold or do they just go bar to bar. I think it's more for the younger adults anyway.

Does each person get all that in a treat bag? If so, I'm coming to your house. When I was a kid it was one or 2 pieces of candy from each.

Not all of it...only as much as will fit into the little bags. They usually end up with maybe three of the good candy bars and then the rest is the smaller stuff.
I also have a huge bowl of candy bars here for company or if I get more trick or treaters than what I made bags for. Some of the kids that come in and stay awhile with their parents always grab a handful of that too.
I always seem to buy more candy than I need for the holidays. We still have Christmas and Easter candy here. Maybe I should set that out for Halloween too!?
