We actually don't celebrate Halloween. Just a personal decision my wife and I made separately but at the same time. We certainly don't "look down" on anyone who does, it's a personal choice. So, no dressing up for me.
I love Halloween more than I like Christmas. It's just about having fun and not about how much money everyone can spend. That's my big Christmas pet peeve.
I dress up every year and I think we had this convo last year, so most of the older Bubblerite members know this about me. I make my costumes and compete in contests. My husband and I usually win a prize of some kind. This year's costume is a prisoner in an electric chair. Not sure how I'll exactly get that thing attached to my body or how comfy I will be, but some of the best costumes I've seen tend to be uncomfortable and win prizes.
Halloween is just another way for me to use my creativity.
Lots of happy memories from my childhood Halloween outings. Was so much fun going around getting candy.

Darn & here i was gonna dress up for you... guess not
I've never thought of Halloween as anything more than a kids holiday with a greedy candy begging concept... However i do know several drinkers who love the holiday for the bar scene of it.
Many bars hand out big prizes for costumes. It's a great day to be someone else for a change. I know of a girl that dresses up for every holiday. Nothing major, but she really gets into the spirit of things.
I know of people that have costume house parties with friends. That would be fun.
I love to see what ideas people can come up with for costumes.

I work with a guy who throws a huge house party every year. He & his man really get into it. He takes off a couple days leading up to it, to prepare.
My ex SIL won $1500 in a bar costume contest once & a few days later won a trip to Vegas in a wet t-shirt pole dancing contest, in the same bar... she won the spending money & the trip... not bad.
I've never won prizes that big. Only a few hundred and that was first place. Once won tickets to the Riverside and ended up seeing Gallagher or David Copperfield. I forgot which one since I've seen both there.
I really hate quarter barrel prizes. I think it's stupid to even give that out. Give me money instead.
A good friend of mine (a roommate at the time) took 2nd place in a costume contest at a bar based on my suggestion. He went as used toilet paper. He bought white sweats and rubbed brown shoe polish on it. Then he attached cans of corn to the sweats.
My best costume wasone I wore at a party my brother had years ago. I found a blank white mask - very sublte facial features - and a black piece of cloth for a hood. I then wore all black. I was standing in the living room, and someone came up to me and told me I was creeping them out it looked like I was staring at them. I wasn't even looking at them. I loved it!
Oh, and this year at work I'm going as the invisible man. I have off that day.

Once I went a toilet and my husband was the pack of TP. My toilet even had chocolate treats in the bowl.

I have a friend that went at the invisible man and won some good prizes. The head was actually above her real head and had gauze wrapped around it to give the appearance of an invisible head. It was loosely wrapped around a wire frame with open spaces to make it look like it was invisible. Was a cool costume.
