Bad Gas from Gas Stations - I think I know why

Have you ever stopped to get gas and not long after driving off your engine starts acting funny? People blame the gas stations, water in the gas is one I hear a lot.

Big oil says you need to use the gas you buy before 3 months, 6 months or so or the gas gets stale and can "harm" your engine. They say if you have gas older than say 1 year you should dispose of the stale gas.

Well when your filling up you think your getting fresh gas right.
Can you imagine someone filling up large oil tankers with gas, parking them out at sea for say 6 months or till gas prices go up then unload this Stale Gas to your local gas stations and this stale gas ends up in your vehicle? Well Yes this can happen.

Quote:
The company, for example, often wagers that the price of oil will rise so fast during a particular period, say six months, that it can make money by storing oil in supertankers and floating it until the price goes up. (If the price rises by more than it costs to lease the tankers, he makes money.)
So does this mean we are getting gas older than 6 months? Big oil says old gas can harm our vehicle engines.

You'll never see anyone protect the consumer when it comes to big profits and oil = $$$$$

Re: Bad Gas from Gas Stations - I think I know why

I was beginning to think this was bunk until I read this reply to a question regarding "stale gas" and gas being left in snowblowers, snowmobiles, and lawn mowers:

Posted by jimc_vt z3Vt (My Page) on Sat, Feb 11, 06 at 11:00

Basically, the gas breaks down from fuel to varnish or sheliac per se....it then attacks the plactic and metal in the carb/ fuel system, then it tends to dry up and plug everything up and destroy it....gas starts to turn ,in about 30 days ,so long term fuel storage is an issue....this is why generators, snowblowers and lawn mowers have such issues .....they sit for too long, not being used, and the gas turns to crap....

Hope this helps....Jim

Also on that page was a question about whether gas stabilizers are worth the money.. worth a look.

Here's another link worth taking a gander at:

Meanwhile, thanks for the post, Ken!

Not false.. but I wondered if this wasn't just propaganda spread by the BOC's to spur gas sales.. thinking on it, I've seen the way old gas can gunk up things.
