I'm not sure the statute of limitations has expired so I'm going to keep mum about "my" big heist.. oh, what the heck, I stole a pack of rubber bands from the Ben Franklin 5 & 10 when I was 10.. my friend made me take them back! I've led the life of a saint ever since..

Yeah, a Ben Franklin 5 & 10... It was 7th grade. "Friends" were shoplifting like it was no big deal. Went back on my own and lifted a 10 cent rubber ball. Got home and cried like a baby. Took it back and apologized. Went straight after that.

wow, the first thing that came to my mind was the creaking of those old wood floors as you walked the isles.
I miss them as well, especially the prices!!!!!

They still have (had? Haven't been in a few years) an old style Ben Franklin store (complete with the creaking floor boards) in Branson, Missouri.. I loved to visit there!

There's still one in Hillsboro, Wisconsin too. I haven't been there in years but they used to have a nice craft department.

I miss the old F.W. Woolworth stores too.. I actually worked as an asst. manager at one in the 70's.. worked 9-9, 6 days a week for $125 a week salary. Then again, my rent was only $50 a month then.
