Torte - A rich cake, often made with little or no flour but instead made with ground nuts or breadcrumbs, eggs, sugar and flavorings. Tortes are often multi-layered and filled with buttercream, jams, etc. The Torte is usually covered with cream and fruit or nuts; originated in Austria
Tortes are a dessert that shows up at many family gatherings and potlucks. I don't really think of torte as being the multi-layered cakes, but I know they are also called tortes. I think of a torte as more of a dessert in a pan with a graham cracker/cookie crust or some other kind of crust and layers of all kinds of flavors such as fruit, pie filling, pudding, whipped cream, you name it.
Isn't torte in Spanish a sandwich? I used to find that confusing since it made me think of a multi-layered tortilla dish. I have a recipe like that and the layering thing sounds like a torte-like thing.

Ever heard of a schaum torte? Then there's chocolate eclair torte, grasshopper torte, my aunt's fave- Hershey bar torte, lemon torte, my mom's- cream cheese torte, pumpkin torte, cherry torte and etc., etc. Then there's Torte Elvis from Dred Zepplin the band.
Does something like this look familiar?
Then there's the multi-layered cake style tortes
Latina, that lemon lime dessert sounds so good.
No matter what the topic is on this site, we always end up at food. Hope that all of you don't get drool on your keyboard looking at the pics.
