You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."
Interesting because I was born in the South (tho I lived many years in the North).

Same result as me & i was born in IL, but raised in Texas.
LOL! Boy are they off on mine! It says I'm 100% from the Midland? I've never lived in any of those states!

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

I got the same thing, but I never say pop. No one does around here. That must be more west or north of us.
We always say "soda" here. When my sister comes up from Ohio, they always say "Can you get me a pop? and I am always correcting her. Once she asked for a "pop" and I brought her a Popsicle and told her that's what a "pop" is around here. LOL
LOL with the pop. Next time just tell her that you'll pop her one. I know some say pop, but that sounds like something little kids would say and soda sounds more adult (beer sounds even better). But that's just me.
No surpises here. I have lived in wisconsin my entire life.

....Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It didn’t take too long to find out
Just what he was talkin’ about
A lot of people don’t have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks ’n’ knives
And they gotta cut somethin’....

'Soda Pop' only makes me think of "The Outsiders".
