MADISON, Wis. -- The Iowa Supreme Court issued a unanimous ruling Friday finding that the state's same-sex marriage ban violates the constitutional rights of gay and lesbian couples, making Iowa the third state where marriage will be legal.
On Friday, Wisconsin groups reacted to the ruling and what it might mean for the state.

Gov. Jim Doyle saw the decision as a growing trend among state judiciaries.
"I guess maybe we're all a little surprised it was Iowa, but I'm not surprised that state supreme courts, where there are not these kinds of constitutional amendments we have in Wisconsin, say that you can't treat people differently," Doyle said.
Doyle said he hopes to follow that trend with his budget proposals to secure domestic partnership benefits in the state.
Fair Wisconsin said it's optimistic that Iowa's ruling opens the door for federal courts to follow suit, but the group said it's tough to put a timetable on that.
