Supposedly if you can go to Microsoft, Symantec, or any other major anti-virus website, you're not infected because Conficker blocks you from going to those sites.

My pc is protected by Symantec corporate edition 2008 created especially for a large corporation in NC, which protects thousands of pc's & installed on my pc by one of the managers of the company, along with their firewall etc... i'm not worried... this thing has never met a virus it didn't catch & quarantine & trust me my son has found many viruses on music sites.
Still have to wonder why it's been in the works so long & not set to "bomb" until April 1st... sounds like something that will come out as a joke tomorrow.
My understanding is it's simply supposed to shore up it's defenses tomorrow.
Virologists aren't really sure what it's supposed to do as yet but I suspect April 1st was chosen by the hackers because most people would think as you do: that it's a hoax of some kind.
I use Avast, which has been pretty good. The couple times I've been caught is when I've bypassed or disabled my anti-virus for some reason.

And still no sign of this massive threat, good thing most think as i do & didn't go freaking out about it lol
they say it still may strike at some point, but because it was expected on the 1st the creators have changed it to an unknown date AGAIN... so my question is... if we know what the creator is thinking (over & over again) how come no one has collected on Microsofts $250,000 bounty for the capture of the worm's creator? lol hmmm
Could be Conficker is the prototype for a later version of another virus.. or it could be a building block for one to come later.. it may not be a the complete virus until other seemingly innocent components are added.
(CNET) -- The Conficker worm is finally doing something--updating via peer-to-peer between infected computers and dropping a mystery payload on infected computers, Trend Micro said on Wednesday.
The worm also tries to connect to MySpace.com, MSN.com, eBay.com, CNN.com and AOL.com as a way to test that the computer has Internet connectivity, deletes all traces of itself in the host machine, and is set to shut down on May 3, according to the TrendLabs Malware Blog.
Because infected computers are receiving the new component in a staggered manner rather than all at once there should be no disruption to the Web sites the computers visit, said Paul Ferguson, advanced threats researcher for Trend Micro.
"After May 3, it shuts down and won't do any replication," Perry said. However, infected computers could still be remotely controlled to do something else, he added.
