Official Earth Hour 2009 video. Earth Hour is on March 28th, 2009 at 8:30pm, local time. More at http://www.earthhour.org
From the site:
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.
In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.
Enjoying a power outage is truelly my vise. Flurishing to provide the most creative ways to keep warm, and light the darkness. Flickering Candles and a board with "LIFE" written accross it. The children all snuggly on the frontroom floor, enjoying the first night in the same room since dad bought them their own tent. Seems a shame to only keep the lights down for an hour.
Spent nine days after the ice sheet fell over this part of Missouri, back in 2007, friends in Kansas spent even longer this year. The family together-ness was great,...For like, Three days. With reality sinking in. The dreaded reflections of Catrina and New Orleans started to creep. My Wife and Kids enjoy on occasion, when we turn out the lights and everything else in the house for an evening. We sit around the front room in sleeping bags up to our arm pits, playing "MONOPLY" or any other game that suits our fancy. In the flicking Oil Lamps, and Candles. Listening to the crackling old weather radio you crank up every five minutes. (lot of energy in kids you know) Elvis, or Richie Vallence on the only station we can find, that's not country( No Offense ) I love country, while I go through a break up!
Thanks for the heads up. I'll be turning everything on. I'm sure the criminals are gratefull for the heads up as well.
WOW! A whole hour. Instead of an hour, how about a full week? Let's really make a point. Turn off the all electricity, heat, water. That'll show 'em. Then the power comany can raise your rates to make up for the downfall.
Modern life is terrible. Let's live in tee pee's. Ride horses (make sure thye're not black). Eat by campfire. Dig holes in the yard to relieve yourself. Grow your own food. Eat only what you kill. Let's go back to when life was good.

According to news reports, this is what much of the planet looked like during Earth Hour:
Parts of the Washington region joined 4,000 cities around the world -- dramatically up from 400 last year -- in a global call for energy conservation by darkening key buildings for an hour last night.
Nonessential lights were reportedly dimmed at Washington National Cathedral (which will keep them that way into today), the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and government buildings in the District and in Prince George's, Montgomery, Fairfax and Arlington counties. The embassies of Canada, Finland and Great Britain also participated in Earth Hour, sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund.
Eighty-four countries pitched in, including tourist icons such as the Eiffel Tower, the Sydney Opera House, Times Square, the Pyramids, Beijing's National Stadium and the Las Vegas Strip.
I have no idea where Al Gore was or if he were home with his lights on during Earth Hour, which, after all, was only meant as a symbolic gesture ti increase awareness. And, again, let's resist the temptation to append a label to Mr Gore (or anyone, whatever their belief) and step down from the soap box once in awhile please. Every post does not a political forum make.
