Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
I love to use a coupon or promo code when shopping to save money. One of the things you can do is organize and save your clipped coupons that come in the mail, in a magazine, or in a newspaper.
Some great magazine sources for coupons are magazines like Woman's Days, Family Circle, Good Housekeeping, or even cooking magazines of various types, like Saveur or Gourmet.
Other good sources for discounts or coupons exist online and you can either go directly to the corporate sote for places you shop, like Walmart or Target, or you can go to online coupon websites like www.retailmenot.com , www.coolsavings.com, or www.couponmom.com.
I always try to buy locally first if I can. Buying locally makes good sense for a number of reasons: convenience, less time waiting for delivery, ease in returning an item if need be, etc.
Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
I remember years back when it seemed as if everyone was into coupons. Even several stores would have certain days they offered double coupons up to 1.00 to in the area. There was a group of us that would clip and then exchange with each other if we had ones we didn't need and knew the other could use it. Even my mother in law that lived at that time in Spokane, Washington would clip coupons and send them to me by mail. Stores would have a bin where you could drop off unused coupons for others to share in. I had a real system going with my organizer full and knew exactly what was on sale at what store so I could go there and use my coupons and get more off.
Then it seemed everyone just faded off the idea even the stores no longer offered double off anymore. I even stopped looking for them.
But I think you will start seeing more and more coupon shoppers in the grocery stores as prices keep going up and up and jobs and money is less now. I know I am starting up again with checking out coupons in the newspapers to help out.
Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
I think you're right in this..
I do use coupons when I need something in particular, especially if I'm buying online.
I don't use coupons as much offline because I tend to buy generics or closeouts that are already discounted. I use coupons more often offline when ordering pozzas or for fast food.
Using coupons or a promo code is definitely the smart way to shop tho.

Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
Grocery shopping coupons are usually done by discount cards now, so in that sense i use it all the time. If i see a coupon i know i can get use of i will keep & use it, doesn't happen often, i wish it did... I just used a $10 off if you spend $50+ in shopko yesterday.
Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
I dislike the cards that grocery stores issue to join their 'club'. I don't always carry a purse if I'm in a hurry to run into a store so I end up just adding the small cards to my key chain. That gets annoying since they seem to be in the way and then they get such a tattered look quickly and break easy.
Right now I have one for the Library, SuperValu, Piggly Wiggly, and Pick n Save. Somewhere in my purse I also have Shopko, Petco, Jewel, the list goes on..
Oh then there is the points cards, the punch cards from various places. LOL I need a purse just to hold the cards and I didn't even add the credit cards, or debit cards, gift cards.. and we can't forget how Victoria Secrets and Bath and Beauty sends cards you can use to get free things! lol and then there's coupons for things.......

Pick n save, copps, cub, pig wig, sentry, shopko, auto zone, ace hardware, best buy etc... I have the little key chain cards for them all, they are all on one key ring in my purse... dont think i've used any in a LONG time... Now days you just enter your phone number to the keypad at the check out (credit card swipe machine) and it serves the same as using the card, without needing the card present. So while they ring up my stuff i key in my phone number real quick & watch the savings add up while i continue on to pay.
Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
Just got home from shopping at the Supervalu we have in town. I like going there since they are all so friendly. Also that is the one store that never hassles you if you don't have your card they just say, oh, no problem and swipe the store card. That is great. I saved around 18.00 and paid around 50.00 bucks.
Our Piggy Wiggly makes a big deal out of it if you don't have their card, they ask for your SS # to look you up in a book. No thanks. When I lost my card there I quit shopping until I got my replacement. Then it took me going into the store and signing up for one 3 times and waiting weeks before I finally got a replacement. If I didn't like our South side Pig so much I would have quit gong completely.
Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
I don't really use much for coupons. I used to clip them from the Sunday Journal. Now I don't even get that anymore. It's just too much hassle to clip coupons. I know I used to laugh at people who didn't use them. Now I don't even want the hassle, even if there were lots of coupons.
I like having the cards for that reason. I don't like having a wallet full of cards or all those on the key chain. How about they just don't charge us so much and we don't have to worry about either one?

Interesting. I wish that is all it would take here. But they don't ask for phone numbers at the keypad. Many stores ask you to put in your zip code but that is for something completely different.

As far as i know, pick n save, copps, sentry, spencers best buy, ace & shopko do it that way here, you can slide the card if you have it or enter the ph# & be done with it, never tried it anywhere else... It's helpful for my kids, they can use mine without having the actual card, just enter my ph#.

Wonder if they are just entering it for you & not telling you the option to enter it yourself... then again maybe it's not offered at all their stores yet, not sure.
Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
I use coupons every now and then when shopping locally. Shopping online I look for the cheapest price, look for any freebies they add and most times find free shipping. I also shop at reliable e-stores, I do my homework first before any purchase I make online.
My dad and I went to Best Buy the other day. He found an older pc game that I thought was overpriced. He haggled with the cashier and she dropped the price by $10.00 Thanks Best Buy

You can haggle at best buy?!? I need to try that! They will probably laugh me right on out the store lol
Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
I bought a camcorder at Sears before. It was priced at around $900.00+ years ago. I liked the camcorder so I was sold anyway but I said to the salesperson if they would toss in some goodies like a tripod and some other things I would buy it. He thought for a minute and said well ok.
For 900 they better toss something in lol.
See, you can haggle at Sears too.
The way the economy is today you have a great chance to haggle and walk away with a good price.
Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
hmmm good tip, thanks guys!
I am soo gonna try that! I am a good haggler when it comes to buying a car for much less than is being asked & at rummage sales etc... just never thought to try it in a place like that!
Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
I carry the Entertainment book in my car. Not any good when you're out and it is at home. When you're at home, the car usually is too.
For shopping cards, I just use the store card when I don't have mine handy. I think they know that I'd be prepared to leave the groceries at the cashier. Plus most of them know I'm one of their best customers.
Good tips on haggling, even at department and big box stores, Ken.
