For shopping cards, I just use the store card when I don't have mine handy. I think they know that I'd be prepared to leave the groceries at the cashier. Plus most of them know I'm one of their best customers.
Good tips on haggling, even at department and big box stores, Ken.

Before the local Pick n Save used phone numbers i'd use the store card when mine wasn't with me... right before x-mas 2007 i asked to use their card & they said they couldn't do that 2 weeks before & after x-mas due to certain deals... i would have saved $27 with the card, so i asked if they could save my stuff & i'd run home to get my card (i live close) they said they would cancel the order & have to re-ring it when i returned (over $100 in groceries) & it was a busy busy store that day. The lady in line behind me offered to let me use hers & they said no, because they had a $10 cash back reward if you spent so much during that 4 week time & she would get credit for it, i said i didnt care that she get the credit, they called the manager & he said NO! They made such a big deal of it all lol wow! i said 'forget it, return the groceries while your at canceling my order' & i did leave empty handed & ended up at walmart the next day to get my groceries.

I use my "Pig Card". The computer knows me, knows which items I purchased, and which of those items have some sort of coupon sort of discount. I even get a discount on a gallon of gasoline at a local fill-up spot.

Our local supermarket doesn't have a "shopper's club" card.. in fact, they just stopped using an abacus to tally orders not long ago so it's no surprise!
Just kidding, but our local "Price Cutter" super market had an old check out system until recently.. you'd have to wait forever for it to process a check, credit, or debit card. Thankfully, they now have a new system in place.
Again, don't forget to check online for printable coupons, coupon codes, and promo codes you can use to save money.

See, you can haggle at Sears too.
We buy a lot from Sears and had them reduce things before for us to.
The last store that did that for me was Kohl's. My son wanted a pair of shoes but the only pair they had in his size was the floor model and it had a little scuff mark on one. They took a percent off and we went home and wiped the shoe clean again.
Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
When Cindy and I bought furniture for the house, I suggested we haggle and we got a great price on the items we bought.. same thing with the car we bought.
It never hurts to ask for a reduced price, perk, or discount.. the worst thing they can say is "no".

I had two $10 coupons for cigarettes I gave to a neighbor.. he used them to buy cartons, then decided he was going to quite and sold all the packs of cigarettes to a neighbor for $1 a pack.. the next day, he was buying cigs for $4.75 a pack and griping about it! What an idiot!

I do clip the ones I might use from the Sunday paper when we buy it. Then I almost always forget to look through the coupons before I go shopping since I don't go on a regular basis. I used to go every Friday no matter what, but now I just go when I'm out of something and then I get everything else I might need at that time. It seems like lately, I've been going there at least two or three times a week though.
I mostly buy my groceries at Wal Mart but I do go to a the local grocery store at the mall for certain things that Wal Mart doesn't carry like Au Jus mix, filet mignon, corn tortillas, and Root Beer Schnapps. I don't shop at the grocery store down town at all. It is small and doesn't have much of a selection plus it is quite a bit higher priced on things. I will only buy hamburger/ground round at the grocery store in Fennimore (45 min. away) because it is so good and well worth the trip...and sometimes, the butcher gives me a discount since I buy 10 to 15 pounds at a time.
Re: Do You Use Coupons To Save Money When You Shop?
I buy most of my groceries at Walmart but almost never buy any meat there as my local supermarket always has beeter deals, better cuts.. we also have a couple meat processing plants locally where you can buy meat in "family packs" (roasts, chops, quarters, etc) for cheap..
If I have coupons tho, I make every effort to use them.
Thanks Dave! I went to that website and printed some coupons and then actually used them at Wal Mart today. I will make a note to myself so I can remember to do that more often.

Great! Glad it was of use to you!
No ink in my printer
Be nice to find a site where you could request coupons on your favorite items and have them mailed to you.. I'd think there must be a site like that.

I miss the double coupon days they use to have at the grocery stores. All coupons up to $1.00 would be double the amount off on double coupon days. So many times I would end up with the item free or next to free. Great.
