Kid Safe? 90,000 Sex Offenders Removed From MySpace

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - MySpace officials say about 90,000 sex offenders have been identified and removed from its huge online social networking Web site.

North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper said Tuesday the new figure is nearly double what MySpace officials originally acknowledged last year when detailing who had used their site.
Cooper and Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal have led the charge seeking efforts to make social networking Web sites safer. MySpace officials sent the numbers to Blumenthal's office Tuesday.

That's an incredible number.. wondering how many frequent other social sites like Stickam, etc.

Unfortunately, I'll bet that's just the tip of the ice berg.

Parents need to be aware of their child's online activities if only for reasons like this.

Yep, if they didnt already have 10 other accts anyway... with so many ways to change your IP online, libraries offer free access, internet cafe access, pretty much access everywhere these days & dial up changing your IP with each reboot, they will never keep it free of the sickos... wish they could, but wont happen.

I read about the lady doctor in WI who had her identity stolen on facebook last week... sickos are everywhere and the net will always be crawling with them, sad but true.

Just like locking your doors & watching your back, it's a part of life & up to us to keep our info and children safe.
