I never use ma'am with anyone. I hate being called that, it makes me feel old. Just call me miss. Ma'am is a little old granny. Guys, remember that. Women hate being called ma'am.
Just yesterday I was on the phone with an area business owner that I have spoke to many times in the past. When we ended the call he said, 'thank you ma'am". Ahhhh! Instant putting me in my place that I am older! lol At least that is how I felt. I'm sure that was his way of being polite but he did know my name. lol
You are right, guys, women hate being called ma'am. Unless it's by a younger child. I will accept that as politeness. But actually I much rather be called 'ma'am then some of the strange things guys think are acceptable.
I HATE being called babe, or hey man, what's going on? Yikes, how strange is that? That has actually happened before. lol Or, a guy that is trying to be cool and he keeps calling you hon. I want to choke. You know the type, dated clothes and every other word. (reminds me of an area Big Lots store employee that was helping me right before Christmas.). yuck.
What also annoys me if you if make a call to a store etc. and you give your name and the person keeps saying your name over and over, Well Patti, or just a minute, Patti, Or have a nice day Patti, like a dozen times in the conversation. I don't know why that annoys me too.
LOL I just realized that we are in THE HOT SEAT TOPIC! I thought we were all just talking about in the chit chat.
So I will get back on topic here and ask the last question...
Yes Ma'am & Yes Sir are alive and well down here Sweety Pie!
Again.....I do want to STRESS I was in NO WAY insinuating ppl up North were unfriendly.....just slower to WARM UP. But once they warmed up........They're HOT! In a good way!

QUESTION #10:What are your pet peeves?
Yeah, I think I was the one to hijack it.
Pet Peeves? How much time do you have?
1.People who do not put their shopping carts back in the "cart corral"
2.People who do not use their turn signals when driving. (cars don't have them here...ha!)
3.People who won't let you change lanes when driving, they like to play "pole position" down here. (ask tamed about THAT one!)
4. LITTER BUGS
5. People who do not pick up after their dogs in public
6. People who walk their dogs "off leash" in a LEASH LAW neighborhood (they defend themselves by saying THEIR dogs would never hurt anyone & they follow theteachings of the Dog Whisperer) Ask me about being bitten and/or have walked a dog on leash who was.
7. People who talk on cell phones/leave ringers on while in a theater/restaurant/Dr office, etc.
8. Plastic packaging on many many many items you buy that you cannot remove w/o a jig saw
9. Magazine inserts
10. People who repeat themselves over and over
Yeah, I think I was the one to hijack it!
Pet Peeves? Hmmm, how much time do you have?
Oh yeah......nevermind.

I once said something to my contractor, who is only 2 years younger than me, to quit calling me Ma'am. He laughed and said "Darlin', I was raised up in Naw'lins, you ARE a YANKEE aren't you?"
Now I say it all the time.......I realized that I have actually lived in the South longer than WI., even though I grew up there, so I guess I am Southern now.

LOL, I have a pet peeve list a mile long myself. Lots of things that annoy me.
Yankee? Why do people even use that term anymore? Are we still having a Civil War? I hate that when I see it on the internet (only time I see/hear it being used). Worse yet, don't say Yanks...ugh!!! Actually, what really gets me is when other countries call all Americans yankees. Duh! Go read a history book and tell me how much of the country that included. Then look at how many people have moved here since the Civil War and and not to mention everyone moves all over the place. See? I told you I have many pet peeves.
Don't get me started on my pet peeves of poorly designed products. There are many.
The Confederate South is also alive and well here!
Yankee is widely used to describe anyone arriving from North of the Mason/Dixon line, and then of course, Damn Yankee for ppl like me who moved here. It is not uncommon at all to see license plate inserts for the front of people's "pick-em-up" trucks and flags in the back window, or flapping in the wind on their antenna.
Saw several today as usual.
It's not uncommon here to see (mostly) men wearing Confederate Flag t-shirts.
