My dad was a 4 year liver transplant survivor. He waiting almost 2 years before receiving a new liver. His was destroyed from hemochromotosis.
The new liver gave dad 4 more years and in the early morning hours of Monday Aug 4th my dad died.
He was doing everything he had to do, but had went into rejection. He was doing weekly labs. On Wednesday July 23 he was at Froedert once again for his labs and my step mom wanted him to be seen by a doc, but because his labs were "Fine" he was sent home. July 25th...his birthday he was rushed to the hospital where he was admitted and he was found to have Sepsis.
They tried everything they could. Dad went on dialasis, they were pumping all sorts of things thru him to counter act everything that was happening but it didn't help. Lots of pain, but very concious of everything going on around him he decided it was time to unplug everything.
We were all called to the hospital for the final good bye. He gave us all a list of things we had to do then he was pushing us out the room telling us to go home.
All his different IV's were stopped and he passed away at 1:30 am, August 4th 2008.
