How many people out there have started rolling their own cigarettes since the new taxes started at the first of the year. I save a ton of money by rolling my own with a simple little machine. I'm just curious if I'm the only one. I could save even more if i got a chance to go to Greenbay and buy some tobacco from the Indians.

I rolled my own for awhile, before the tax was initiated. After awhile I began to see it as a novelty, and became tired of it. I went back to smoking the pre-rolled cigarettes, and was not able to taste the tobacco, but was inundated with the taste of all the rat poisons, and what-not that makes up the cigarette.
Kinda odd that a tax would be imposed on a product to help cover the cost of treating a person for the adverse effects of the product. The tax would cause the price of the product to rise, and the users might be inclined to stop using the product...and reducing the amount of tax revenue generated by the purchase of the product.
I stopped smoking about a year and a half ago....started smoking again 16 month ago, and have stopped again on the 7th of January.
Time Smoke-Free: 107 days, 11 hours, 39 minutes and 49 seconds
Cigarettes NOT smoked: 3225 Lifetime Saved: 24 days, 15 hours Money Saved: $709.56
...so no, I can't be counted as one that has started rolling their own since beanhead Doyle raised taxes on tobacco products.

I too am smoke free and have been for a year and 3 months now. I have seen many family and friends perish from the nasty habit and I tell myself everyday.... cigarettes are bad mmmk

I stopped smoking October 15,1989 at 12:50 am and I wished I would have saved that money I would have spent on purchasing cigarettes, I could afford to retire now.
so the message is smoke young and die young or save and retire early and live the good life

I told Ma Kettle that it was going to be a cold day if $$$ was going to be spent on store bought...
If she was going to try to get cancer or other hospital donation stays, she had to work at it...
So she bought a roller, papers, and lung clogged... WOW we have saved a lot of $$$$ to even afford my blended Canadian...
yep, lots of money to be saved.
I figure it cost me about 50 a week to buy at the gas station.
1 1/2 pack/day x7=10.5 packs a week
10.5 packs/week x $5.00=$52.50 per week.
After the cost of the machine. I have a nice one, there are alot cheaper ones.
The rolled tubes with filters, and the tobacco cost me about $7/week.
cant beat that with a stick. plus i like the taste better.

I just asked Ma of how much is 1 pack of store bought know adays and she said she didn't even know...
She does about 20 sticks a day (1 pack of store bought) and gets 2 cartons worth of out of 1 bag of cancer ($18.00)... The papers (2Box's) with filters are about $2.70, but she uses the coupons that are on the box'z that are for 20 cents off for the papers, and 50 cents of of the cancer...
So what is the pack of store bought and the cost of cartons...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EDIT: You was talking about cigarettes right...
my last thoughts on smoking
If you save that much by rolling your own, just imagine how much you would save if you did NOT smoke!
Then think of the time you are now spending, rolling your own. Think of what else you could do.
1. Spend more time with the family
2. Read more
3. spend more time with friends
4. start an exercise regiment
5. start a new hobby
This list is endless
I used to think that I could die for a cigarette until the day I ended up in the hosptial dying
because of a cigarette.
all it takes is ONE DAY AT A TIME
every day you do not smoke gets you closer to not smoking, but focus on the NOW
BUT DO NOT LOOK BEYOND TODAY, JUST MAKE IT THOUGH ONE DAY.. THIS DAY
I CAN GUARENTEE THAT AFTER SIX MONTHS OF BEING SMOKE FREE, NIOCTINE FREE, THAT WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT SMOKING YOU WILL KICK YOURSELF AROUND THE BLOCK FOR EVER SMOKING IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!
AND IN A YEAR A CIGARETTE WILL LOOK FOREIGN TO YOU AND YOU WILL FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE EVEN TOUCHING ONE. But do not tempt yourself!
Sounds like you just hijacked the thread...
I don't smoke but still have the common courtesy to not be a THUMPER of my believes...
Ma actually smokes less as she is spending more time to even get them rolled...
My NAGGING And THUMPING is not going to help our relationship at all, and believe it is her choice... It is supposed to be America, but it is obvious it is just a group of states that are NOT united...
This sounds funny but it's true. I quit 3 years ago, my husband started on nicotine patches about a month ago. He's been smoke-free for over a week now. I am terribly allergic to cigarette smoke and couldn't be around my husband if he smelled like cigarettes. Now I don't have to worry!
His decision to quit wasn't primarily because of the cost or taxes, a lot of it had to do with me being allergic to him. Likely we'd have bought carton upon carton of cigarettes out of state to bypass Wisconsin's costs if he wanted to keep smoking.
Funny how Wisconsin jacks up the price of smokes and opens a quit line, but doesn't ban smoking in workplaces like our bordering states. How much does Wisconsin really want to shed its image as the Midwest's Ashtray?
Its ok eagleswingwis, I expected that when I started the topic. It touches a sore spot for some.
You cant go anywhere today without getting lectured, its become a fact of life. I hear it all the time at home.
However like prohibition, people who want to do it are going to anyways. Its a simple fact of human nature. which explains why most of the people i work with still do it.
Personally I no longer drink, but I don't believe everyone should quit just because I don't do it. I could ramble on about health and the way it effects familys, how many relatives I have lost to it, ect,ect. what good would it do? none.
The more they lecture, the more my rebel streak refuses to allow me to quit just because someone wants me too.
once again, Its all really cool if you have quit. keep it up.
I only hope you did it because you wanted to not because you were forced to , in order to avoid becoming a third class citizen.
That however isnt why I started the topic, I was hoping there were other rebels out there that have said " To heck with the man and his bs taxes"
I guess im one of a kind.
Ok,no need for you all to tell me what kind you think that is. I already got the idea.
I also did the tubed filter...with the tobacco stuffer machine. I noticed the cigarettes were larger around. They felt real comfortable between my fingers. The tobacco had a different taste/flavor. I think there might be less poison sprayed on the tobacco than on the ready rolled cigarettes.
As a matter of fact, I was cleaning out a drawer in the filing cabinet the other day, and came across one of those tubes. I stared at that tube for a good 5 minutes....maybe waiting for it to get up and do a dance...like some old television cigarette commercial. I ended up tossing it back to the circular file.
To sum it up, the tubed filter and tobacco stuffer routine was fun and stimulating for awhile, but the lung clog is not missed.
Funny how Wisconsin jacks up the price of smokes and opens a quit line, but doesn't ban smoking in workplaces like our bordering states. How much does Wisconsin really want to shed its image as the Midwest's Ashtray?
I used the Quit Line. They sent a box of Nicorette...mint flavor, even. (The VA smoking cessation program provided me with non-flavored gum. I don't recommend it). I really didn't chew many pieces to stop smoking. After sometime, I would chew a piece on the occasion of a really nagging urge. The website forums are of great help.
Hey RudeDog...I did think about getting one of those dooba-jiggies, where you roll your own. The place I generally buy my smokes showed it to me. HOWEVER: He had the kind they came out with several years ago and what do they look like when your done.....yup!!YUP!!...my Papa rolled his own for years and what did they look like???? yup!! I have never smoked pot and I don't want anyone to think I do...did....dun....EVER!!
But then that all can go back
to medicinal
and
we
