food for thought

There are MANY issues plaguing the world but none more basic than food, drink and shelter. I am sure you do not have to travel too far from where you are right now to find someone in need of the basics, they are all around us, locally and globally.

How many times have you been to a "Convenience store" in the last year and pondered on what you would like to drink? Think about it and go to this link.
More than 1.5m children under five die each year because they lack access to safe water and proper sanitation, says the United Nations children's agency.

How many times have you been to a food court, fast food restaurant or buffet in the past year and again pondered on what you would like to eat?
Think about it and go to this link.
About 24,000 people die every day from hunger or hunger-related causes.

Dirt cookies for the hungry

We see the images on nightly news, magazines and hear about it in our churches. As a young man I was told never to waste my food because there were staving children somewhere going without. You might even have even heard a comedian poking fun at the typical parent remark saying something like” well send it them I do not want to eat it” and getting a laugh!!!! It is no laughing matter.

Now you do not need to be a Christian to answer this question but it is food for thought.

Judas received 30 pieces of silver to deliver Jesus to his enemies.
What type of impact would we have on the world if every man and woman that pondered what to food to eat and what drink to quench their thirst, would contribute 30 pieces of silver to the world poor?

Re: food for thought

Again excellent post John.

It's very difficult to even imagine how some wonderfully innocent people are forced to live their lives in this way. What they would give for even a small percent of what we take for granted. I intend to show this to my children so next time they are complaining there is nothing to eat when they are staring into a full refrigerator maybe they will realized how truly blessed they are.

I have orchestrated several food drives in our community and school before. I also give to our local food pantry as much as possible. But looking at this makes me wonder if any one of us really do enough. We should all reach out and give more and post these pictures on our kitchen wall, send them out in emails, pass the word.

Find a charity and donate. Gather up the unwanted cans of food in our pantries and give. There is so much suffering right here, sometimes not far from our own homes.
