Well I just read that the post office will be hitting us up for yet another penny per stamp and additional charges for sending packages etc in May.
I so seldom buy stamps to send snail mail that I had to even think how much a stamp cost. Remember back in the day that the only way to do all your bills, correspondence, etc. was all done through the mail?
Just another way the our computers have really changed the world and made it all a smaller and closer place to live.
Here it is less than a year later and I was in the Post Office the other day and the lady was telling me how rates were going to change again. Shipping packages..going up soon. Just to send a package of cookies to FL in 3-5 days was over 12.00. How high are rates going to get before people can't ship anything?
My exGF works for the Post Office.. everyone there is scared because they are laying off postal workers and trimming the Service down as much as possible. Many are being offered early retirement.
The Post Office needs to offer alternative digital services or something to keep up with the times. I pay all my bills online and rarely mail anything except packages.
I don't know what the solution is but I think they're in real trouble. Raising postage prices is counterproductive IMO.
Stamps for Christmas cards, and the Second Chance Lottery entries. Otherwise, I'm an electronic bill pay, and electronic general correspondence kinda' guy.
Raising their prices might prove to be a nail in the coffin of the U.S. Postal Service. There's plenty of competition.
I do everything online as well... auto bill pay is a wonderful thing. I went to mail out x-mas cards this year & found that the stamps i had, for what was apparently a very long time, were not enough postage lol that's how rare it is that i mail something.
Yeah, a penny may not mean much to those who send out a piece or two of mail per month, but it will hurt alot of businesses who may have to pass on the cost to the consumer.
I recently ran across a service called Zumbox that allows businesses to send mail to any US street address for a few cents each.. it's a digital service but my sense was they also send any digital communications via regular postal mail as well. Plan to look into it more. In any case, it allows businesses (and individuals) to send mail to anyone, even if they don't know their email address. Be nice if it catches in.
Zumbox delivers paperless mail online – from street address to street address. What used to only be sent as paper mail can now be sent without the paper. How? We’ve created a nationwide paperless postal service with a Zumbox for every street address in the United States, including yours.

It will help with mail, but not the economy issue, with more jobs lost & more economy struggle (if it were to catch on) ... we just cant win either way.
Well, I for one am going to go online and buy a bunch more "forever stamps" if they still have them!!!!! I am down to one roll. I had no idea they raised rates on Priority Mail....mailed 3 SMALL packages the other day and he looked at me and said "$27" and some odd cents.......WHAAAAAT????? Oh my! I was expecting 1/2 that! DUH.
