Anyone for a brain teaser?

Let's say you just sat down to eat your breakfast of eggs. You just got done putting salt and pepper on when your little brother decided to challenge you to a brain teaser.

He gives you an ice cube floating in a tall glass of water. He then gives you a short piece of string. He wants to know if you can figure out how to remove the ice cube from the glass of water. The trick is that you have to remove the ice cube with the string and you can't put any knots in the string to help.

Can you do it?

I'll give you a day or two and then will post the answer...of course if you get bored with this one you can always go back to the trivia post in the break room and see if anyone knows the answer to the last queston on there.

For the quick minded person that gets the correct answer to this brain teaser please add another one if you want. Anyone else with some brain teasers you want to try out on us? Please add them too.

The more here...the more fun we can have.

I agree with Coon Mom, sprinkle salt on the string while it is sitting on top of the ice cube.

Yes, you are correct.

The salt will cause the ice to melt. But when you stop pouring the salt the water that formed on the top of ice cube will then refreeze with the string frozen in it.

You can then just pick the cube up.

So go for it Carol and add one for us to think about now.

OK, now here's one for you to really think about....

You're driving a bus that is leaving on a trip from Pennsylvania and ending in New York. To start off with, there were 32 passengers on the bus. At the next bus stop, 11 people get off and 9 people get on. At the next bus stop, 2 people get off and 2 people get on. At the next bus stop, 12 people get on and 16 people get off. At the next bus stop, 5 people get on and 3 people get off. Question: What color are the bus driver's eyes?

Well the clock ran out for Carol to add a question so I'll go ahead and post a few to think about.

This one you MUST DO IT IN YOUR HEAD! No cheating with paper or caluator.
Here goes...

Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000.
Now add 30. And another 1000.
Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10.
What is the total?

Just for the fun of it I'll give you this answer but please tell the truth and tell us how you really did on this.

Did you get 5,000? Well most people when doing this in their head will get this answer but the correct answer is 4100. Now check it on paper and see how this is true.
The brain works weird at times. lol

I got 4100 first try.....I have to add clients bills in my head as well..... This was a good one though!
