Sweetest Day

OK, I know the first thing most people will say is the fact that Sweetest Day is mostly just a 'hallmark' Holiday.

But for me I actually like Sweetest Day almost more than Valentine's Day.
For one it's in the Autumn which is my favorite time of the year. And also it's more celebrated in our area of the country so it's like an exclusive holiday for us. lol

But more important it gives us just one more time during the year to stop our hectic lives and be kind to those that are important to us. Now it would be great if we just did this without being prompted by a Hallmark Holiday but many people need the extra prompting so what better time than Sweetest Day? lol

So...does anyone else look forward to this extra day we have each year?

If so, what do you plan to do on this day?

Yep I can honestly say I've recieved more flowers on Sweetest Day than Valentine's Day. PK is right on the money!

I am jealous, I have never received flowers or anything on Valentine's Day or Sweetest's Day.

Guess us old folks just aren't romantic.

I'm a grandmother..so I can't say I'm exactly 'young' in age...but maybe still try to be 'young' in heart. lol

But it's not just about romance like Valentines Day is protrayed as. It is also about being kind to one another and to those that mean alot to us.

Instead of waiting to get flowers etc...turn around and do something extra for the 'special' person in your life first. Make a special card and dinner plans out. Check out the movies and take the family. Plan on a nice fall walk together. Just spend the morning going to antique malls, or something you all enjoy doing but having done for a long time. If going out doesn't work..pop popcorn and make it a night in....

I think that is what I like best about Sweetest Day here...we never made it like giving heart candy boxes etc. I just like spending time outside of the 'regular' routine together.

My husband's idea of being romantic is sitting in the deer stand. Have to admit though a few months back I was so waiting for a movie to come out in the theater but couldn't find anyone to go with me.....he did. The movie.....I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.

so I guess he does love me.

My husband and I changed it from "Sweetest Day" to "Swedish Day." We have Swedish Fish candy and Swedish Pancakes for breakfast. Both of our birthdays and our wedding anniversary fall in October, so we have enough gift-giving occasions!

Swedish day...what a different idea. I'll have to remember that.

Anways Carol, sounds like you could have a great day too. Just buy some special food, grab the camera and have some fun pictures to share. Sweetest Day is about being with people that care about you...I don't see why it can't include pets that care too. lol

It's suppose to be nice out today which is great. It's going to be a day of frisbee, chasing balls and kongs, walks, and pictures...and probably some sun snoozing.
