Furbys and beanies. The Furby toy is the new hot item this holiday season, while Beanie Babies still have not lost their appeal as Christmas nears. Both stuffed toys were available this weekend at Watertown Square shopping stores as hundreds of holiday shoppers flocked to the stores to make a purchase. The first craze began Saturday morning at Mimi's Hallmark when beanies went on sale at 8 a.m. More than 400 Beanie Babies marketed by the Ty Corporation were sold at the store throughout the day.
America's mightiest satellite, an 8,800 pound Atlas intercontinental missile majestically circled the earth today and was believed ready to broadcast a recorded message by President Eisenhower. The new satellite, nearly twice as long as a cross-country bus, was shot into orbit Thursday night by the Air Force. The feat was hailed not only as a major American propaganda victory but, even more, as a giant stride toward man's ultimate conquest of outer space.
