Re: child health insurance plan

Bush is an idiot.

First of all, what better way to use cigarette taxes than to provide healthcare for kids? Likely we'll see the cigarette taxes raised anyway and the money go to pet projects.

Second, he has no idea what poverty is in this country. The poverty level for a family of 4 in Wisconsin is $20,650. Does he think a family of 4 making $21,650 is that much better off and can buy private insurance? A family making $61,650 can't even do that.

Re: child health insurance plan

Just a little different perspective: Tobacco taxes have been on the increasre for years with promises of "paying" for this or that. I haven't seen it.

More importantly, I think, is the whole health insurance debate. I think it's misguided. The problem with the health care system is not if everyone has insurance, although it helps, but the cost of health care. Ever look at a breakdown of a hospital stay? It'll make you sick again. The healthcare community overcharges for almost everything.

When you go to a doctor's office, what's the first thing they ask you? Got insurance? Or, is this work related?

The problem I see with insuring everyone with some kind of government plan is that it'll only increase what we're being charged. It'll spiral to no end. We need to put pressure where the problem really is. The healthcare industry.

Secondly, any government run insurance program or subsidy will be a money pit. The same people who drive you nuts at the DMV will be administering your healthcare.

Think about that.

Mark
