Sounds like a pre-owned one. New domains I don't think go for any more than $25/year with most $10 or less.

Pre-owned ones can go for millions. They're like real estate. Got the right one that someone wants and it's prime property.

I have 3 different domain names from websites we were going to build up a while back and decided not to. Spend about 7.50 a year each on them. Keeping them until someone really wants them or one of us decides to do something with one or all.

But you are correct in saying if it is prime it could be worth alot if someone else has it first and decides to sale it.

You may want to register your domain name for more than one year. It is a long complicated process but bottom line the search engines look at the length of term the domain name is registered as part of the algorithm for ranking your pages.

In any case, domains, even .com domains, can be regged cheaply if you watch for sales and promotional codes.. I just used a code the other day to register a .com domain for $1.67 and a few days later used another code to register one for a bit over $5..

You can try Google and search for GoDaddy codes or domain promo codes and see what you come up with that's current.

I typically stay with one registrar for my domains and that's GoDaddy.. they've got a decent reputation and have been around long enough to be trusted.

Just wanted to mention, if the .com is taken, you might try a .info domain ($1.99 on sale at GoDaddy) or even a .us domain ($3.99 on sale at GoDaddy).. usually if you buy 6 or more domains at a time, you also qualify for a discount.
