You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.
You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.
You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.
You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)
You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island .
You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie", not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill" and people sometimes thought you were a boy.
You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.
You owned "Klick-Klacks" and smacked yourself in the face more than once !
Your Holly Hobbie dolls and sleeping bag were your most prized possessions.
You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.
You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.
You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits, or the sunshine family
You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.
You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.
You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Oleson!
You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.
You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink!
PONG! ("video tennis" ) was the most remarkable futuristic game you've ever heard of !
Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty"
with the comb you kept in your back pocket.
When you walked, the "wings" flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna "take off"
You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic.
With the thermos inside some were glass inside and broke the first time you dropped them.
You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend or Which of the Hardy Boys
YOU had Star Wars action figures, too!
It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV.
Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!
You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Will I marry
Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy?"
You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album.
You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's eyes, decoupage,
or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.
You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!
You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.
You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.
You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books.
(Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.)
You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics. (?? it's not??)
You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart or rainbow< B> designs.
You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.
You drowned yourself in Love's Baby Soft - which was the first "real" perfume you ever owned.
You glopped your lips in Strawberry Roll-on lip-gloss till it almost dripped off.

Life is not measured by the breaths that we take;
it's measured by the moments that take our breath away!
The 70's sucked so bad that I left the country for the second half.
The disco poison was spread around the world. There was still some good rock'n'roll to be found in the Philippines. The Philippines was a big transit point from the Viet Nam War, and alot of that culture was apparent in those days.
Other than the pop-culture and shifting social morays, the 70's weren't really all that bad...they just sucked.
OMG!!! That was so funny. Sad thing is my little sister who is 10 years younger than me remembers the fact that I had a BIG thing for Leif Garrett. BTW...I was damn good at that Simon game too! lol
The 70's was wild, fun, laid back, alot of turmoil, peace, love, hate, war, protests, love, hard rock, acid rock, soft rock, country rock, punk rock, whatever you wanted into music, and whatever you wanted in lifestyle.
Janis Joplin Jimi Hendrix died but the music lived on, Led Zepplin, ZZ Top, great artists far from 'disco' music.
Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Smoke on the Water was a huge hit.
I remember a couple of great Rod Stewart concerts, Stix was getting big and putting concerts on all over that we would go to at the local bars.
Peace, flower power, love, low cut big bell bottom jeans, long hair, or frizzed wild hair, john lennon glasses, rose tinted was my favorite pair at the time.
Cool man, hey dude, wild, far out, far out dude, hey dude, be there or be square, 'your mama', was all popular sayings that I can remember.
Scooping the loop, going to 'old town' Chicago, hangin out, shakey's pizzas, drinking green rivers at the bowling alley and going roller skating every weekend.
We had walk outs, sit ins, peace rallys and peace marches. Alot of unrest at our schools. Many times we would have police dogs, and police running around breaking up riots.
I remember going on a 16 mile walk to help stamp out hunger. Protest rally against the nuke plant being built in Zion, Illinois.
Black lights were very much the thing to have with long black fur bedspreads. Vans were decked out with the full back in long shag on the walls.
I drove a 69 Nova and then had a great 67 Camero. Great cars back then.
Mood rings and wearing your boyfriends class ring with angora yarn to make it fit. Every year we looked forward to the bonfire before homecoming. Our school had great concerts and sock hops.
Love going to Chicago to concerts that we could actually afford back then compared to the high cost of tickets now! Rod Stewart was a great concert, Ides of March, Doobie Brothers, Stix Concerts to name just a few.
I thought I was great with a reverb radio in my first car that was a Rambler Ambassador. lol I also had a great stereo system that had a 8 track tape recorder. Not to many people could record their own 8 tracks at the time.
I remember the first 8 track I recorded was Best of Bread. Stevie Wonder album was the second.
I also have to mention the great artist that was really part of my 70's;
Stevie Wonder and Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Glady Knight, Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Commodores, Earth, Wind, and Fire was great. Really got into Todd Rudren, Neil Young, James Taylor, Carol King, all favorites.
OMG...if you lived through the 70's while in high school it was totally a time of many feelings. Times that were so great, times that was scary, tiimes that you had to stand up and make your self noticed, times that you simply wanted to fade away into your music, or just 'chill out'.
Many memories and not just disco like alot of people think. Everything was out there because the 70's was mostly about change in our culture, and our times.
(most of the memories mentioned was in the earlier 70's) I then married and life was much different. I worked hard for only 2.25 an hour, our first house was less than 20,000 (3 bedroom decent house). Gas was hard to get at times. By the end of the 70's many changes were taking place that altered music and life forever).
I was in WalMart the other day looking through CD's with my sister. I picked out the Best of Bread and said, man this was my favorite cd and I can't find it anywhere. She looked at me and said, "My God, are you kidding me? Yuck." I asked her, have you ever listened to them? She said yes, and I hate them. To me that music and their voice is so relaxing. When I would go in to have my back injections I would play one of their songs before going in so it was fresh in my head and I would play it in my head while the procedures were being done. Man I love that group. Does this mean I am old? You know, I did just turn 40.

.
I am a wee bit older...well, maybe a little more than a wee bit than you...lol..and I don't think of myself as old. Well, maybe the other day when I shoveled all day! I was REALLY OLD that day! lol
Best of Bread. Not sure where that even came from in my head but it just popped in when I was writing. I really did like that album too. Good music.
They were considered a Soft Rock band that really was popular in the very early 70's.

I just want to say....thanks for making me feel sooooooooo young. I'm a wee bit more than 47, but it turns out my memory is still working! Don't forget the latter years of the '70's...KISS, Supertramp, Rush, Cooper....and then there's all the other items I "forget". *grin*
As for the "best" of Leif Garrett...wel, I "Googled" and I still couldn't answer what hit he was known for...
Leif Garrett Garrett signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records and recorded his first album, Leif Garrett. The album was released in 1977 and his first four singles charted modestly on the US Hot 100, with "Runaround Sue" reaching the highest at #13. In mid-1978, he signed with Scotti Brothers Records and recorded his second album Feel the Need. The album's first single, "I Was Made For Dancin' ", reached #10 on the US Hot 100 and #4 on the British Chart but subsequent singles failed to crack the top 20 in either country. Nevertheless, Garrett continued to record, releasing the albums Same Goes For You (1979), Can't Explain (1980), and My Movie of You (1981) in quick succession. In the 80s Garrett returned to acting,
Also, my best friend has a son who will be 16. One of his favorite groups is Bread. At that age. I think that is GREAT. My kids are almost grown up and you know what music they like listening too the most?? Styx, Kansas, Journey, oldies, all the stuff I played when they were growing up. My son who is 20 will plug his IPod in my car if we are going somewhere and think he will stump me by saying "who sings this?" then plays and oldie. I think that is just awesome.
Grand Funk was one of my favorites back then...but wait, actually I had a ton of favorite bands back then. There was so many, many great bands back in the 70's to pick from.
I remember Grand Funk came to Chicago one time and I wanted to go sooo bad. I had the poster about it pasted to my wall (among a ton of other posters!). Never got to go to a Grand Funk Concert but still loved the music.
Here's a couple of great ones that really brings back memories!:
Now what I remember of Styx was going to see them at the local bar concerts. In Kensoha there was a place called Brat Stop (the place was alot different back then for those that know it now!). lol
October I in Illinois had them playing there a few times also. I think the place was in Volo, Illinois if anyone remembers the place?
Not long ago we went to see them in concert. They were still great.
Another blast of the past memory.....THREE DOG NIGHT.
I remember one year it was pouring down rain on my birthday. A knock came on the door and I opened it to find my boyfriend from the next town over standing there totally soaking wet. He walked the whole way to my house to bring me the THREE DOG NIGHT album and a Stuffed Animal. Oh young love. lol
(in memory of Mike Tobias).
Just a few years ago Three Dog Night was playing at one of the Countie Fairs around here (can't remember which one now)..They still put on a fantastic concert.
I think evey past decade can have good and bad memories ,especially those decades when you were at an impressionable age.
For me the 70's seemed to last last a life time
1st marraige,1st house, I actully bought a brand new car
changed jobs for a big increass in pay and had health insurance and did not use it.
I worked 12 hrs a day and came home to do some lanscaping
I smoked like a chimney

I can recall celibrating the bi-centenial
Watergate
the end of the war
the end of the Beatles
it started with hard rock and ended with disco, although I recall thinking after 3 weeks of disco that it really sucked!!! why did anyone like this stuff.
Just thinking of the current President and his gift of our money back to us,I recall Jimmy Carter's tax rebate that was suppost to boost the economy but then he reneged and we never got our rebate that just goes to show you, DO NOT SPEND IT BEFORE YOU GET IT!!!
Music of the time I enjoyed
all those solo beatles albums
James Taylor
Santana
Bob Dylan ofcourse
Bad Finger

....Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It didn’t take too long to find out
Just what he was talkin’ about
A lot of people don’t have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks ’n’ knives
And they gotta cut somethin’....

Most of the memories I wrote about so far is from the earlier days. I graduated and married young (which is what most did back then), we bought our first house, had our first baby and life went on. I was on my second child by 1980 and was out of everything seems like. I remember my brother listening to the Cars, the Police?, and I think I kinda flew past the disco stuff, I felt as if I was to into bills, kids, and life.
