Now this is the type of Wedding I hope to experience someday with my beau of pure love.

If you talk to the animals they will talk to you, If you do not talk to them you will not know them. And what you do not know you will fear. What one fears, one destroys. ~Chief Dan George. (1899 - 1981)
My first marriage was a larger church wedding with the long dress, flowers, lighting the candles etc. We went on a week long honeymoon to the Ozarks.
My second marriage we were married in my mother's living room with the minister and just very close friends and family. We had a small reception in the church later with cake and a gathering of friends.
I enjoyed my second wedding so much more. It was so personal and with close friends/family it was something I will never forget.
Weddings are just so out of focus of what's real now. By the time the whole expensive ordeal is over with a ton of money was spent that really could have helped the couple purchase their first home. And the personal feeling is completely gone from the huge event. It is more like a very expensive 'show'.
Survey: Bridal spending tops $125 billion; parents less likely to foot ballooning bill.
Engaged couples can expect to hear more than the "bling bling" bouncing off the bride-to-be's ring -- they'll also hear the ka-ching of the cash register as the average cost of a wedding soars to $26,327, according to a new survey.
I'd estimate that we spent about $3000 on our wedding for everything. I bought prom dresses off the rack and was able to get two, a white wedding dress and reception ball gown, for $300. Nobody knew I wore a prom dress at my wedding!
It wasn't the wedding we wanted (we wanted a park, pig roast and potluck) but at least it was cheap!

I would have loved a pot luck picnic, a pig roast and an outdoor wedding. We thought of something like that but we got married on April 3rd and the weather just wasn't going to let us have all that.
I bet more people are going to lean towards outdoor weddings, family gatherings etc. in the future. Unless a person is totally rich, who really can afford to put 30 grand into a wedding?
I know we couldn't. And a grand wedding doesn't give you the stamp of survial of the marriage anyways. I did bigger the first time and it did not last.
My first was in a church, a small gathering afterwards. It was -17 degrees and I used to tell people the day I was married, it was a cold day in h*ll.
My second marriage,
our toes were planted in the sands of Waimanalo beach, the surf and sun at our backs and we faced magnificant mountains of Oahu. Afterwards we went to a luau, complete with entertainment. We spent a week on Oahu and enjoyed every minute, Cost? more than I want to say in dollars but emotionally priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

....Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It didn’t take too long to find out
Just what he was talkin’ about
A lot of people don’t have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks ’n’ knives
And they gotta cut somethin’....
