Wow, I can't believe the way gamers are going nuts over the new Sony game console. I've seen it on Ebay for as much as $5000.00. I think these people need a little more patience. My wife asked me what makes this game worth $600.00 at the store. I told her, the fact that people are camping out at the door makes it worth that much. Truely a market driven price. I would never pay that kind of money for a game, but that's me. If someone else wants to blow that kind of cash on a game that'll be obsolete in a year, so be it.
We have several different games systems, game boys etc here but there was no way I would stand in line, or pay that much for one.
The ones we do have we either waited until they came down to a decent price or we could get them used at the game crazy we have in our city. Even then they were never that expensive to start with. Never would I invest 600.00 or more for a game system.
Shame on the parents that are setting this example for their kids.
All I can say is, if I were going to pay $600 for a computer, it better do a heck of a lot more than play games. That's more than I paid for both of my PCs combined, and I can play plenty of games on those computers that don't require an extra $600 outlay for a new system!

You would be surprised what a PC gamer pays for their system. The Graphics card alone are over 400 dollars . then you have the latest processor.cooling sytem max ram,4d sound with theater speakers, new faster style Hard drives along with game controlers and you will be in 3 to 4 grand range in a very short time. Oh yes and they need to be tricked out too. neon lights etc.
so now 600 dollars sounds cheap to me
But then if you ask me a PC is a tool used for work NOT play
I have low-end gaming PCs. True, the video card is the bulk of the cost, but if you're more interested in being able to play cheaply than in flashy graphics, you can do that for $90.
Monitors, on the other hand... I didn't include the cost of monitors when I was talking about pcs because we're just reusing monitors from previous computers. But new those are as much as the computer!
The playstation 3 is actually a low cost computer. I have Linux (operating system) installed on mine, hooked up a wireless mouse and keyboard, and it does everything my pc can do, and play games. I paid $500 for the last new computer I bought, and the word "game" or the words "high definition" are not in it's vocabulary. If you want a pc like that, it'll run ya close to 3 grand unless you build it yourself. also, you cannot find another Blueray Disk player for that cheap, BUT...
My Opinion of PS3...
First off, I have not had any problems with it, it's all working like it was designed to.
But...
I do not have an HD TV, So take away the BlueRAY, wireless, and memory card capabilities, and a modded XBox V1.1 can do everything this piece of junk can do, and for much cheaper.
I have yet to see it levitate, (like in the commercials) but when I do, I'll probably take advantage of that, and give it a good kick.
I don't have a PSP, but from what I've read, if you think your PSP would be worth $600 if you could hook it up to an HD TV and play Blue ray Movies, then you will like the PS3.
Oh, and don't believe anyone that says it runs cooler then the PS2. This sucker shoots hot air out two sides, and could darn near heat my house. It makes a good candle warmer. So don't put it inside an entertainment center or anything like that, It will overheat and become a red light blinker. I'm not saying the 360 is any better, but there are better ways of spending $600.

Opinions?

Ok, It's been well over a year. The PS3 is no where near "Obsolete". In fact, it is just now picking up steam. Mostly due to the price cuts on the system. But with the price cuts, have come some major hardware changes as well, So it's not what it was when it was $600. Anyhow, I thought I'd revive this old thread, due to getting an HDTV and playing games/movies in High Def.
Weather or not your in the market for a $400 game system, The blueray player alone is well worth this price. I was an early adopter that paid $600 for my system, and I am now very glad I did it. The Competition, isn't even in the same catagory, IMO.
So weather your a gamer, or a movie buff. This truley is the best system for the money.
