It's hard to believe that less than a hundred years ago, there was almost no music recording going on. What was recorded was put on wax cylinders.

Since he was born in 1912 he'd have been a teen and young adult in the twenties and thirties -- there's a lot of good music from the Roaring Twenties that you could use too.
