I've greeted at least a couple of hundred old Members today. I hope this will encourage a few - or more - to return and perhaps become more active. All of these Member's I'm greeting in their guestbooks have one - and only one - Forum post. I like the idea of them becoming active because that could suddenly mean a half dozen to a couple of dozen more active voices in our Wisconsin Forums. The more, the merrier...and the richer the experience for all of us.

Woke up about 3:30 am today and jumped on theBubbler (of course!).

Caught up on greeting new Members.

Visited all kinds of pages and continued to find great new features in our Wisconsin online community.

Figured out how to edit my "Interests". Cool. Just add one at a time, then add another. This is great because it makes it easier to find others with similar interests. In the old site, you had to hope someone knew to add keyword, keyword phrase, keyword ~ all separated by commas. Now the keywords are right there and when you click on any word or phrase you get a list of Members with the same interests.

We have to do video tutorials soon.

Also added personal info to my Member page.

Got four or five more posts in at the Forum thread (toward bottom of home page) with kudos and suggestions for the new theBubbler.com

Alexa says we're still relatively slow. I'm hoping some tweaking might bring us up into the top half of fast sites. We're certainly MUCH faster than the old theBubbler.com!

I've got to get lots of stuff caught up on here. Many images to post for one. Friends list updates for another. Forum rules and just plain fun conversations for a third and last but not least, I'd like to get a chat schedule going.

Nice to do an updated blog entry.

Regards,

From theBubbler Poll on Wednesday, March 02 @ 11:48:59 CST

Let's...

From theBubbler Poll on Wednesday, March 02 @ 11:48:59 CST

Let's see...besides six kids, there's Riley, the one-eyed wonder dog, Sydney, the dumbest, most obstinate, yet (kinda, sorta) loveable Australian Terrier, Saphire, our Tabby (that is a story in itself) and Hera and Zeus, the Ferret Gods.

Riley's a Heinz 57 varieties we saved from the pound as a pup. He'd been abused and was so timid we never saw his beautiful tail (tucked between his legs) till we had him about 3 weeks. Heard one bark about a week after that. Now the tail is almost always up, like masts on a ship with fur billowing. And every time Riley goes out he barks his head off to let everyone know he's coming, probably because he can't see much. Riley had a detached retina and surgery didn't save that eye. Trouble is, he's on his way to going blind in the other eye.

Which leads us to Sydney. He wears bells on his collar so when Riley's blind Sydney will be his guide dog. We inherited Sydney when my wife's Mom passed away. You know how they say about pets being like their owners... I've gotten accustomed to him, nonetheless.

Now Saphire, she's a jewel. She was a newborn kitten to a litter in the wild. My Dad took care to leave food out for mom (still does) and the litter. My daughter fell in love with this one and I said NO. (Never been a cat person). Two months later I was up visiting my Dad, a 3 1/2 hour drive. Leaving his 1/2 mile driveway I thought I heard a meow. Checked throughout the car to be sure he hadn't planted a kitty in it. Got home, heard the meow again. Saphire, the one and only, same kitten my daughter named, had crawled into the engine compartment! She survived. The vet fixed her broken leg and we had to adopt her. And I've found out some cats are cool. Of course it helps that she thinks she's a dog. She's in one of the pictures in my Member profile (look closely, tucked in between my shins).

Ever heard of the "puppy dog close"? A sales technique pet store owners use, the salesman says take it home for the weekend, if you're not happy bring 'em back on Mondy. By Monday, the new pet is passe for the kids but Mom's fallen for it. Well, my son got Zeus, and then Hera. Now Mom takes care of them. When we let the ferrets out and all five are playing, it's a hoot.

That's it for now. We got rid of the fish.

Regards,
Keith

How poor people live:

The following from one of those endless chain emails that I rarely...

The following from one of those endless chain emails that I rarely read. Glad I took a peak at this one:

One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing him how poor people lived.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm, of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"

"It was great, Dad."

"Did you see how poor people live?" asked the father.

The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden; they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden; they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard, they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on; they have fields that go beyond their sight. We have servants to serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us; they have friends to protect them."

The father was SPEECHLESS.

Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are!"

Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.

Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends.

"Life is too short and friends are too few."

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your private message and thanks for the...

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your private message and thanks for the update.

I sent your address to my assistant, Julie, to update NetSuite.

Just watching the end of the Packer game and going online to start a couple of proposals.

Grandpa is back from Canada - hated it and doesn't plan to go back. Closest place for gas 60 miles away; most materials delivered by boat coming upriver to job site. Vermin/spider infested shack to sleep in, all electric from portable gas-powered generator. Saw only a squirrel and three crows for wildlife. Came back early cause Floyd was sick, but he was happy to get out of there. Debbie handled everything fine while he was gone.

Grandma had a birthday party at Liz's. Saw Kevin, Bobby and Jeff, plus Liz and Darla. My brothers are good, real good. Would've been nice to see Karen. All three bros bought the book but Kevin and Bobby have to pay yet. Grandma's going for more checkups, don't really know the score about her health. Tony was cool (Liz's husband) - a good host. He's headed to Miami later this week to help with hurricane cleanup for his cousin who's in the insurance business down there.

Sold forty copies of WebForging so far (maybe 20 promises, too). 210 to go. Haven't really worked the phones yet...I'll have to do that soon.

Claudia Marie is getting big, in 3rd grade. She's our God-daughter. Hope to reserve a month long space at Devil's Lake with Kevin, Lynn, Claudia Marie and Taylor next to us. Maybe we can get Bob and Sharon to take up a spot, too.

Kali was there with her new -adorable- baby. Liz had her new foster baby there, too.

Been reading, "The Spaceship under the Apple Tree," with Megan. An hour last night, with her and I taking turns reading aloud. Two chapters left. Megan's about the only one left here who's "little" - so I'm enjoying the lap time reading together.

Just occurred to me to add this to my Journal at theBubbler. Hope you don't mind.

Take care, son.

Love,
Dad

Hey RedRaven,

Thanks for your message.

Thanks for the kudos on the personals site - http://www.theBubblerPersonals.com. Your idea is right on. Unfortunately, we have little control over the "look and feel" (let alone the naming conventions and such)...essentially only the "skin" (colors/fonts) - all the rest is from Dating Tech Network.

BlueJayIceCarver stopped by a couple of days ago. I feel like I've made a few friends on theBubbler - you first. BlueJay is another of those. What a nice kid. A Poli Sci & Journalism major from Madison with a paid internship for a state senator, a history buff on his hometown of Kiel (near Sheboygan, you probably know it).

He had business in Oconomowoc, got lost on the way to West Bend, drove down Main Street in Sussex, saw our sign and just dropped in. What a trip! The first of my friends from theBubbler that I got to meet in person.

Anyhow, it was a hoot. Thanks again for your correspondence - and for being such a great citizen in our online community.

Regards,
Keith

p.s.: Hope you don't mind, I'd like to post this note to you in my theBubbler Journal.

TheBubbler is beginning to pick up steam.

Averaging over five new registered Members a day now.

Last Summer usage was waaaaaaay down. This Summer, usage continues to climb from Springtime levels. Should be awesome when everyone goes back to school.

Have an online store and got 20 items for the family - love 'em (the family, too).

Coders doing a great job, especially the new guy...really coming into his own.

TheBubbler.com business cards and magnet cards are huge. I hand out hundreds every week, often along with a joke or two and a handshake. Nothing like word-of-mouth (especially mine) and guerilla marketing.

Some really neat Members at theBubbler. RedRaven has been a huge supporter. I hope to meet him sometime.

theBubbler.com may be hosting a Milwaukee Tribe / Ryze meeting in September. That should be fun.

Meantime, I've finished writing my book, Webforging (yes, at WebForging.com) and I hope a few Members of theBubbler.com audience will buy a pre-publish sale copy.

Hope anyone/everyone reading this is enjoying (or has enjoyed) a great Summer!

theBubbler.com was "dormant" for quite a few years...and by some...

theBubbler.com was "dormant" for quite a few years...and by some measures theBubbler was still the 4th largest Wisconsin portal.

Traffic is really picking up this year. Programmer and Water Cooler News Editor Andy Libecki has done a terrific job and that's a good part of the reason. The support from the rest of the staff at Keith Klein & Associates, Inc., is another part of the reason. Perhaps most important, we've developed some great fans in the new registered member rolls this year...Wisconsinites who really like what we're doing and have gone out of their way to tell five, ten, fifteen, twenty or more other friends about theBubbler.

We're pleased to note that theBubbler.com has added one hundred new Wisconsin Registered Members in one month! From the 16th of April to 15th or May, one hundred new and fairly active members!

The personal Member Page we're giving everyone has helped. We'll be improving these pages, enhancing the 'social networking' aspects of theBubbler.

Take a few minutes to add your photo(s) and interests to your Member profile if you haven't done so. (Just login to theBubbler and go to "Your Account").

Please, use the tell-a-friend feature (in the black menu bar top & bottom of every page) to spread the word. You can send the 'Tell-A-Friend' to multiple people at once using name@domain.com, another@another.com, etc@morenames.com and so on.

Use Tell-A-Friend now, on this page.

And remember, we welcome your questions and suggestions.

Regards,
Keith

Published this somewhere on theBubbler...can't find it so here it goes in my Journal:

By the looks of many service organizations, Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis, etc., the greatest generation is, indeed, the greatest generation.

The average guy in my Lion's Club is, I believe, 80 years old going on 120. Five of them to every one of us under 55 or 60. When a couple of forty-somethings join, it is a youth movement.

What happened to the idealism of the 60s? Oh, yeah, we're the ME generation.

They say we have so little time...and 'they' are right to an extent. I'm lucky if I make half my Lion's meetings. I believe it is better to do what I can though, when I can, than to just skip the community service altogether.

These service organizations are the first to help with local scholarships, local disaster relief (like paying for the hotel for a family whose house just burned down), local sponsorship of youth organizations like sports and scouts. Yet the membership is - literally - passing on. And the 60s do-gooders are few and far between. We're not that busy!

Our club raises thousands of dollars annually for a camp for Wisconsin kids with disabilities. The camp is free to kids and their families and includes medical staff and terrific facilities on a beautiful private lake.

We donate thousands more to charities like Leader Dogs for the Blind and building the park facilities up in our own community.

Every dime of profit we make supports these charities. We pay for our own food and drink and administrivia.

Start a youth movement...get into a local community service organization and help out.

You might actually find some time...like when we get the call to 'carry picnic tables at the park' (code for 'sheepshead game and beers at Chubby's'). We have to find time to do the things that are right.

TheBubbler.com is my "pet project" - allowing the combination of many interests. Wisconsin booserism. Social networking. The internet. Business, particularly sales and marketing.

I'd like to share what is happening with theBubbler.com here from time to time.

Right now I'm pleased to report that 38 users are online at theBubbler as I type this. Lately we've been running an average of 30 to 50 people online at any given time.

TheBubbler.com is also getting an average of 2 or 3+ new registered users a day.

These numbers are good but they could be much better. Please, take time to register. Share some information about yourself (as much or as little as you like - you can edit what you share at any time).

And, please, tell-a-friend (or 100 friends) about theBubbler.com (there's a tell-a-friend feature on virtually every page).

As always, we welcome your questions and suggestions all the time.

Regards,
