The power of legal insurance!
This morning I called one of my credit card companies regarding extra fees and interest on something already paid, requesting removal. The rep transferred me to a manager who told me it is impossible, because when I asked last month for the pay off amount, it was "only an estimate". In querying what policy does that fall under, and could he send me a copy he told me no.
Then he told me he would add the extra interest from these past few days since the statement arrived, and I should pay it but the mail may add a few more days to the interest and there may be more money due by the time my payment arrives - with interest on that, too.
There was no way to get an answer from this manager! He was determined I owed all this extra, around $76.00.
I had not used this credit card in over a year, and had made one charge on it! That was all. We had paid it in full, online last month within 10 minutes of speaking with the person who told me the amount. It just made no sense! I asked again about the policy and the manager said he would not tell me.
Finally I had to resort to something brand new. (We now have Pre Paid Legal Insurance)
I asked what address should my attorney send a letter to, on my behalf. He told me there was no address! Incredulous, I laughed and said I never heard of such a thing in my life! No address?
"No, really", I said, "I am serious, obviously this will not handled by phone and my attorney will have to handle this for me. Please give me a proper address - is it the one on the statement? This P.O. box here?".
Now he passed me to another upper manager named Bill. Bill apparently had not been informed the situation, so I repeated it to him, how last month we paid online within 10 minutes after being told an amount and received yet more charges.
Bill told me all charges were being dropped as of our conversation and thank you for being a good customer.
Amazing.
What we were told we owed paid for 3 months of protection.

Just by having confidence in my law firm, I didn't even have to use their services! But I am so very thankful to have access to top AV rated law firms in every state and Canada if I need it. They are there for us, and would have written a letter on my behalf (had I needed it) and handled the situation for me.
This is not the first time I've ever used them - we did our wills (a service) and identity theft protection/restoration (service) as well as a Legal Shield for driving. (service) I also have phone access to my law firm 24 hours a day, and help with any legal document (service)
Our actual legal needs are slight, but my husband and I love having free access anywhere we go, so reasonably and with less concern on our rights being eroded constantly in this country.
