I want to tell you about Quakers. Also known as the Monk Parakeet, these litle birds are dynamic, comical little fluffs, and if you ever let one own you, you will always love this breed of bird. Very hardy little birds, these sociable little fellows are among bird fanciers' top ten list of best talking birds. Mine began talking at 12 weeks, and now he says so many things I can't keep track of it all. They are cheaper than big parrots, and for the the most part, if they are interacted with, they do not become too noisy! The exception being when you have one or more breeding pairs. 8O Quakers are illegal to own in some states, such as Kentucky and California, where they are thought to be nuisance birds. Feral Quakers buld colonies of nest along power lines, to the point of shorting out transformers. They are perfectly legal in Wisconsin, and are among my favorite type of bird. Most common are the greens, but they also have lovely shades of blue, cinnamon, and very rare white.
