Bird immitates fire alarm, saves family!!
MUNCIE, Ind. - A noisy parrot that likes to imitate sounds helped save a man and his son from a house fire by mocking a smoke alarm, the bird's owner says.
Shannon Conwell, 33, said he and his 9-year-old son fell asleep on the couch while watching a movie. They awoke about 3 a.m. Friday to find their home on fire after hearing the family's Amazon parrot, Peanut, imitating a fire alarm.
"He was really screaming his head off," Conwell said.
The smoke alarm had activated, but it was the bird's call that caught Conwell's attention.
"I grabbed my son and my bird, and got out of the house," he said.
The fire destroyed the home's dining room, kitchen and bedroom, Muncie fire officials said. It remains under investigation.
Aside from Peanut, Conwell said the fact that he and his son fell asleep on the couch helped save them. They may not have heard the alarm or the bird if they were asleep in their bedrooms.
Conwell said he runs an air conditioner and a breathing machine in his bedroom and they drown out a lot of noise around the house.

Re: Bird immitates fire alarm, saves family!!
Wow, I've heard before of cats and dogs saving their owners, but never a bird. I normally don't care for birds as pets because of the noise but I guess the noise isn't all bad!

Re: Bird immitates fire alarm, saves family!!
I did hear about this on the news. I think that's awesome the bird saved the family. Last week there was also a bird in the news for catching a robber. When the would be robber walked in the bird said "HI" alerting the owner of the house to a "visitor". The robber was caught.
My own birds will say "Hello" when someone arrives or "See you later" when somoene is leaving. They also ring the phone and carry on a conversation, among other things.
One of my greys is more talkative where the other grey likes more sound effects.....like the sound the door makes when being opened or closed. Or the beeping of a smoke detector with a low battery..........

Yes they are smart. I have several talkers. Must always be careful what you say around them as well
Did you hear about the african grey that got out and was lost for 2 weeks. He would not tell the cops anything, but when they took him to the vets office he told the vet his name and address
