Do you sell on eBay?
The post about craftmalls has me wondering: Have you tried selling on eBay? What kind of result did you get if so? Have any experience with their "eBay Stores"?
I make jewelry as a hobby, and I don't really have the time to do regular craft shows with it, so I've been thinking about selling online, but I'm not sure which direction will be the most effective for me. I do websites all day at work; the last thing I want to do when I get home is more ecommerce programming

I have posted a few items on eBay, but have not actually sold anything. I think I posted 4 items or so, without a bid. At the time (it was a while ago) I was listing a $15.00 suncatcher. I think it was $0.60 to list it and then would have been another $0.75 or so if I would have sold. Then there would have been the $0.75 or so if I was using PayPal as well. Something like that anyway. The problem I had was that I wasn't allowed to post my website, which is also my company name, anywhere in my listing. I have never used an eBay store, so I am not familiar with what the fees are for that, or how well stuff sells.
All of that being said, I know that people have success selling on eBay. I guess maybe I am just more of an eBay buyer than a seller. They have quite a bit on their site if you decide to continue your research.
Hope that helps some!

I've sold a few things on ebay. I'm more active bidding on things there then selling.
I've been successful selling carnival glass, pet costumes, piggy figurines, hand painted wooden garden signs.
Now my neighbor is the Ebay King. He can sell anything!

I sold a car once on eBay. I actually pulled the add, and the buyer drove from Minneapolis and gave me cash. eBay still wanted the fee for selling the car, but I disputed them, and won the argument.
Cudos to me!

I was straight forward with the description of the car. It was damaged in a hail storm, and had small dents, about 1/2 inch apart over the entire car. The insurance company estimated it a total wreck, when actually it was a perfectly good car...other than the ascetics. All the glass, and lenses were intact, and the engine ran like a top. Mechanically, it was a top notch car. I paid $150.00 for it, and sold it for $2700.00. I guess the folks in Minneapolis hadn't heard about the hail storm we had. He said he just needed the engine and transmission for his wife's car. Hers had more options on it.
Many of the eBay Motors vehicles offered are from auto dealerships. Dealerships operate under strict state guidelines, such as the "Lemon Law".

I buy and sell on eBay with very few problems. I bought a Jeep from a woman in Marshfield, and it was a very fair deal. Exactly as advertised. And I love it. Most everyone is very friendly and way above board. But there are a few who abuse it.
I've been selling triangle looms on eBay for several years, and have met some very wonderful people in so doing. I maintain contact with several of the weavers, and they have come back for multiple looms and triloom stands. This year I hope to partner with a weaver in Texas for the From The Land craft show in October (near Green Lake). I want to offer some of her shawls along with my trilooms and bonsai.
eBay is relatively safe, and they have policies in place to help both the buyer and the seller should there be a dispute. And they are constantly adding features to make selling easier. I haven't done a store, but do use templates. Yes, there's a fee, but it's less expensive for me to sell on eBay than to pay for a website.

Selling on Ebay is one of the ways I sell my worm castings. I sell about 80 to 90% of my listings. It's good exposure.
Crys, my personal opinion is that the Ebay store is for high volume sellers who can recover the cost. I don't have a store and I sell more than people who do have stores. That's comparing the same product of course.
Store or no Store, it's about price, honest shipping charges, shipping quickly and good customer service.
Once you do it a few times, it doesn't take much time at all.

hmmm....
Good thread.
I'd like to say I sell on eBay, but unfortunately I just BUY, BUY, BUY on eBay. Good deals, though. Outfitted much of our studio via eBay, at about 20 % of retail; 25 % with shipping.
I'd like to run a 'drop it for profit' type store that does product photography and listings for people. I'd tie them in with the free Wisconsin classifieds here at theBubbler.com.
Regards,
Keith
p.s.: I'd love to see some of your jewelry!

A few years ago I set up an account and put together a ton of inventory and had big plans on selling on Ebay but to many things in life got in the way.
My goal is to get back on track this fall and really get back into my plans and go forward with it all.
So when I do you all will be the first to know to check out Patricia's Treasures on Ebay. It will be centered around children's new/used clothing all sizes, mainly school clothes, also educational books, reading books, old books, and I'll throw in antiques, treasures of all kinds, whatever I come across. It should prove to be quite interesting.
