Description
This makes a great snack for after work/school. I make this up in batches to keep in the freezer year-round.
|
| Ingredients |
- 1 lb frozen bread dough (usually 1 loaf), thawed
- 10 oz pkg frozen chopped spinach
- 1/4 c. chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minched
- 1 Tbs fresh chopped basil
- 1/4 tsp dried oregano
- 2/3 c. tomato sauce (homemade is best)
- 1/2 c. shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 Tbs grated parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 Tbs milk

No prior preparation is required.

| Instructions |
- 1. Divide thawed dough into 8 equal portions. Heat a large skillet over med heat; add spinach. Cook until heated throughly. Preheat oven to 425 degree. Grease or foil line a baking sheet.
- 2. Stir onion, garlic, basil, oregano and tomato sauce into skillet; simmer for 10 minutes. Roll each dough piece into a 5-inch circle. Spoon spinach mixture onto each circle; sprinkle with cheeses.
- 3. Moisten edges of dough with water. Fold dough over to enclose filling; press with the tines of a fork to seal. Place on prepared baking sheet.
- 4. Beat egg with milk. Brush over calzones. Bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve immediately.
- 5. If freezing, let cool completely before wrapping. Will last longer if vacuum sealed.
