Cheese Fondue
Author: Kris10
Time:
About 20 minutes
Difficulty:
Easy
Serving Size:
6
Description
My family enjoys this cheese fondue every holiday season. In addition to bread cubes, fresh vegetables and summer sausage are great for dipping!
Ingredients
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 1/2 pound shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 pound shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 (1 pound) loaf French bread, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
Preparation
No prior preparation is required.
Instructions
  1. Prheat oven to 350 degrees. Toss bread cubes with garlic powder. Place cubes on cookie sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes until toasted.
  2. Simmer wine in fondue pot. Add Swiss cheese, Cheddar cheese, 1/4 pound at a time. Stir after each addition of cheese until melted. Stir in flour. When all the cheese has melted, stir in salt and nutmeg. Serve with cut-up French bread.

Re: Cheese Fondue

Hi Kristen! We had this every year on Christmas eve. There was no cheddar - just more swiss, which I think kept the kids out of it in our younger years, but not for long! I'm pretty sure the white wine called for in our recipe was called Kirsch. Thanks for the memory! I think of it every year!
