The woman I dealt with was older than me, so I'm sure she has planted many gardens. Not sure why she was so confused since there about 3 things you put on plants: Fertilizer, bug killer and mildew killer/fungicide.
The girl you had should spend time looking at the plant tags and learn the names of the plants. Also in her spare time look at some garden books or catalogs. Learn the names of common plants people grow around here. I visited a lot of garden centers when we first had our house and I looked at all those catalogs that came in the mail. I learned a lot in a short time.
