Re: Do you read a local newspaper?

I know our Appleton paper has drastically cut-back on staff and content. They have even forced unPaind furloughs on employees in an effort to stay alive. That must be going on across the board. As prices increase on everything from ink to paper to the utilities required to produce a newspaper and yet all it's customers are living on less income.

I can not help but think the only way to turn a recession around is to get people employed.

There are a whole lot of them out struggling right now.
Print is getting less competitive with the web all the time. ShoreWest, top Wisconsin real estate brokerage, dropped Journal Sentinel entirely in favor of internet, cable, billboards. Had been one of JS's top five advertisers.

Newspapers can still be a bargain. Just use the grocery coupons and you're usually $$$ ahead.

Still, I've given up on Journal Sentinel in print. After 40+ years of never missing (except while in the service) I got fed up with terribly spotty delivery for months and months. Sometimes 2 papers, often none. Got tired of going to the library or buying a copy to replace the one not delivered just to keep my streak alive.

Wall Street Journal still a favorite, though I've seen errors you'd NEVER see before.

The front page of a local newspaper has news on other cities or countries but should have breaking local news.

I read the news online about global events, why buy a local paper to read the same thing right?
Right.

I like the local Sussex Sun. Good to see positive news, Civic groups, local youth and adult sports leagues, etc.

The plug is cool. Got to love local boosters (especially courteous boosters!).

Now getting headlines from throughout Wisconsin, from radio and TV stations, newspapers large and small, and individuals - via Twitter. I'll be plugging clients - and theBubbler - and follow a number of them. Follow me at Twitter at Keith Klein (WebForging) on Twitter

Hope to integrate Twitter news into theBubbler. Definitely going to get news - from personal to world-level - even faster when Google Wave (Google Wave Preview) appears.

Regards,
Keith
