Re: Stimulus Facts:
Maybe we should focus on the definition of Stimulus. I thought it was supposed to this big bold move by Obama to give an immediate "jolt" to the economy. Remember how it had to get passed so quickly because there was no time to waste?
Well then why is only 6% of the money been spent so far?
Are these jolts to the economy? You decide.
53 billion to the States where 80% (over 69 billion) is to be used for education. I see that as a payoff to the teachers union.
19 Billion for food stamps. Might be an arguement that it's nice to have, but is it stimulus?
2.1 billion for head start/early head start programs. Is that stimulus?
10 billion for education for the disadvantaged. Whatever "disadvantaged" means. Is that stimulus?
15 billion extra in Pell grants. Is that a jolting stimulus?
Over 3 billion for "fossil energy research and development". Sound like stimulus?
4.5 billion to convert federal buildings to "high-performance green buildings". Whatever that means. Stimulus?
7.4 billion to the National Institutes of Health fund to support scientific research. Sounds pretty vague to me. Stimulus?
1 Billion Department of Health and Human Services Prevention and Wellness Fund. Sounds like a slush fund. Stimulus?
2.5 billion National Science Foundation research and related activities. Another slush fund. Just what are "related activities"?
2 Billion for Emergency assistance for the redevelopment of abandoned and foreclosed homes. Aren't these homes that would no longer have an owner? Who's pocket does this "stimulus" line? Wonder how this one is doing.
All this is just a start. Took me longer to type it than to find it. None of this (in my opinion) will do anything to "jump start" the economy. How many new jobs are really here?
I have to go puke now.
