I don't think drilling for oil is the answer. The oil companies would love more control of the oil we still have left here.
You think gas prices are bad this year just think, if we drill drill drill like Bush wants then we use up our oil what would happen. OPEC would have full control over what we pay at the pump. Other countries could twist our arm into doing what they want or they cut us off from oil. As long as we have untapped oil we have some leverage.
One of our problems is car manufacturers. They could build more fuel efficient cars but they don't.
GM built and leased the EV1 with the option to buy. They ended up taking all but a few of the cars and Smashed them. Why would GM take such a huge loss on these cars?
How about a 4 door sedan that can go 240 miles on a single charge? Yeah the price tag is still up there at $60,000 but we're getting there. These go on sale next year 2009.

GM is getting back into the electric car market. They have the Volt, price tag of $40,000. This bad boy can go 40 miles on a single charge.. Wow 40 miles, way to go GM.
