I own an older mountain bike that I purchased from a now defunked sporting goods store, About 3 years ago I started having shifting problems so I took it to a local bicycle shop on the west side of Appleton.
The mechanic told me all they could do was replace the shifters for about 150 bucks. Since I only paid 250 for the bike I told them no and accepted the fact that I did not have all the gears I once had availaable.
Well this spring I discovered I could not shift to any gear,it was shiftless, my thought buy a new bicycle. Have you looked at the prices of new bicycles? Well needless to say I walked out without buying one.
A few days later I saw an advertisment in a one of those coupon magazines for local businesses. I found a new bicycle shop in the heart if Appleton, so I called them.
Their response was "oh that is simple we just clean out the shifters and relubricate and replace the cables" No big deal
So I took my mountain bike to
Chain Reation Cyclery
818 N Superior St
Appleton,
WI 54911
(920)733-1141
In 2 days it was repaired and my shiftless bike is now fully functional at total cost of $24.15 for repairs.
Now I can not complain about that at all.
It is a nice mom & pop shop and yes they have expensive bicycles like everyone else but I will return there whenever I need repairs.
Who knows, I just may purchase one of those shinny new expensive bikes someday.
Guess where I will go when that day comes?
