Checking around some I noticed an article that mentioned at least 7 other incidents happened in Wal-mart's garden centers in the area through out the years. But it also stated that pygmy rattlesnakes are poisonous snakes that are native to Florida and other parts of the South. Only found one other mention of it happening in Texas but it stated that the man claims he was bitten by the snake but no marks were found.
I'm thinking that any garden center in parts of the country where rattlesnakes are prevalent are places you should be extra careful. It's not just Walmart Garden Centers?
It surely is a thought though and I know just to be careful I am going to look before I stick my hand into plants at garden centers this Spring. One never knows..a snake, a spider....
