Seems my copy of "Taste of Home" magazine doesn't have the advertising you refer to. Other than the inserts that ask me to subscribe to some of their other publications.
I enjoy Taste of Home's "Cupcake of the Week" emailing. I don't eat alot of cupcakes, but I get to see some of the other cooks/bakers ideas.
I have noticed that when using recipe sites such as from Kraft Foods, or Sargento, etc., they like to advise using "Sargento Low Fat Shredded Mozzarella" where the recipe could just say "Low Fat Shredded Mozzarella".
I'd like to see a cooks jokes section in one of those magazines.
