Re: Black Bear Reports - Wisconsin Only
The DNR estimates Wisconsin’s black bear stats this year is about 13,000. I have a humorous but could have turned ugly bear account from last month in Waupaca County. A family friend was bow hunting up in his portable tree stand some 15 feet above ground. Well a perfect white tail buck came into range and he was pulling back for the shot…. but something spooked his prize.
A momma and her three cubs strolled through the region. Our friend even though he was strapped to the tree and buckled to the stand for safety he began to hoot and holler making a annoying ruckus in an attempt to scare away the visitors. Plan didn’t work! One of the cubs in curiosity skied his tree. The youngster climbed to a few feet above him. Ohh ****! Momma bear went into a tyrant; before he knew it she was knawing on his boots while clawing at the camouflage pants. After one of his boots fell to the ground along with Mom bear the baby must have finely gotten bored and climbed down right over him. He did receive minor cuts but was thankfull to nothing major. His company well they wandered off to live another day, in the end he did get his deer.
Basic knowledge should be don’t ever provoke a mum of any animal species they will protect their babies. In most scenarios of black bears macho bluff usually works, but in this case what do you think he should have done? For me I believe he did the right thing, we can be experts in bear safety but in the end we can’t control what the bear will do.
