Went out and did some deer pushing today.. With the early gun season starting in Wisconsins CWD area yesterday, I new saturday would not only bring a million deer hunters, but its also the pheasant opener  ... So I figured me and Dave Dockstader would push some of the brush around Rome pond where I have been thinking might be holding a buck or two... We started orer at Daves on some private land along with Lee, who after ther 1st drive had to run home   Wish he woulda stayed cause we only pushed deer for a few hours and had an awful lot of action, but its hard tp knock em down with just two guys. The good part is due to the wind we were able to step right on em before they would jump.
We 1st pushed some brush right next tpo the parking lot where I lknew would hold some deer.. Dave needed a buck sticker and I agreed to help him get 1 doe... then we would hunt 2 1/2 year old or bigger bucks. Dave jumped a lone doe and it headed across a canal to my side but at 75 yards and sailing all I could see over the deep grass was head and tail.. Till she jumped way up into the air to clear some brush. The shot dropped her. On the gun cam you can see a big poof when the slug impacts her wet body.
Can you see the "poof" in the middle of the screen?
Then Eagle eye dan spots a floating deer in the swamp...
Quick call Dave over to see if it has a rack...
Nope, poor Dave got stink hand for nothing
So then we do the next drive and at the very end a 140+ class buck jumps up and runs. 3 shots much closer than the "flying" doe, and a much larger target, and wouldnt you know Dan misses all three shots  In my defense though, it ran right where Lee should of been   The pics from the movin g footage are a bit blurred when I make them still shots, but here is what I got...
Well after Lee's buck ran off, we dragged ourselves over the hill to make sure it was not hit and jumped a big doe... Let this one go, we got our buck tags. Then, one more push before calling it quits. Set Dave up to recieve and I slipped around. I made sure Dave was in position before I started walking cause my scent was going to blow into the bedding area when I circled... Sure enough when I got up wind a 2 1/2 year old 8 point around 115ish snuck out heading for Dave. He shot at it walking past him aty 10 yards... and then sneaking away at a trot at about 40 yards... Lets just say, tomorrow Dave will be sighting in his scope  I also kicked out the little 3 pointer that went under my stand bow hunting a few days ago... As we waived goodbye to him he cressed the hill and gun fire erupted. I am pretty certain we won't be seeing him again  Poor thing. Not to bad, and I didn't even mention the 2 does we jumped when Lee was with us.
Oh, I gotta mention our trip to the registration in Rome.... There is this Guy waiting to register his deer while we are registering mine and I ask him what he got, and he says a doe, but he said it funny and was stairing down at the ground. Big one? No he says... So I walk around to the back of his truck and freaked out. I probably pissed the guy off, but I didn't mean to.. It was tyhe smallest deer I have ever seen at this time of year.. Honest to god, I bet it didn't even weigh 30 pounds, I could of carried that one out in my backpack... It was freakish. The Guy was very embarrassed and exclaimed "this is what the damn DNR is making us do to get a buck tag" It had to be a fawn from a deer that was bred in March from the looks of it. It looked like a fawn that you see in june or july except the fur was brown.
