FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Restaurant to help farm flood
victims
FYI
A downtown Madison restaurant (located at my wife's museum) plans to
hold a fundraiser to help farmers.
Hello everyone,
I'm sure you have heard about many local farms who have lost the
majority of their crops due to recent flooding. Some farms have nothing
(literally, no produce... NOTHING). Fresco, the Madison Museum of
Contemporary Art rooftop restaurant, has our first scheduled
Farmers'
Market Dinner this Monday night, August, 27, where we feature products
from community farms and the farmers talk about their products... very
informative and fun... however, many of the farmers have called us in
tears as they've come to realize the reality of the rain. It is a very
sad story, and something that I feel the public should be aware of.
Although we haven't seen many problems with flooding in Madison, there
is MAJOR flooding very close by in farms in Viroqua, Mt. Horeb, etc.
Some farmers aren't even going to be at Farmers' Market tomorrow (and
maybe for the rest of the season), because they have lost everything.
Fresco sees a need to help local farmers out, so Monday's dinner will be
a BENEFIT dinner for local farmers. All profits from the dinner will be
donated, and all products from the dinner have been purchased from local
farmers. Can you help us spread the word? We would like to raise as
much money as possible, and donate it directly to those farms in need.
It's my understanding that a relief fund is in the process of being
started, and Fresco seems to be the first one to have a fundraiser.
Please contact me, Caitlin Suemnicht, if you have any questions:
csuemnicht@foodfightinc.com or 608-663-7374. I can supply you with
names and contact information for all our local community
farms/suppliers, too.
Again, please help us spread the word - by by emailing this to your
friends and colleagues. We appreciate your help! I have attached our
flier to this email for your reference.
Warmest Regards,
Caitlin Suemnicht
