MESSAGE FROM LA RIVIERE RIDERS PRESIDENT, DEE BAKER:
At this time we are working with the City Council
to lease the park area. I have found that we could be eligible for trail
grants if we would have a lease that includes the trails. I will share
this will the park committee.
The process is long and slow. We attended a City Council meeting and
they encouraged us to answer insurance questions, and to continue as we
have in the past until the wording of the lease has been completed. I
appreciate everyone's concern that is why we are pursuing this endeavor.
If anyone you know has information regarding liability insurance for an
endeavor like this let me know. We need more clarity. I have the State
statue that says groups & etc. are not held liable for accidents and
other incidents. They were not happy with this.
We will be meeting with the park board again May 14 or 16, I will let
you know.
The LaRiviere Riders, Inc. is an organization that was formed to handle
the management of the park and riding trails, and promote the equestrian
activities that take place at the park. None of us want to lose the
park privileges.
We understand that the park is a large undertaking, and need to show
that our group is willing to manage the park in a positive manner. We
know the city cannot afford to do this.
The organization being a saddle club is a bonus. Being a member does not
mean that this will save our cause, but we do feel that by having
numbers, it shows that the park is a positive for our community.
I also feel that as a saddle club there will be options for trail rides
and other riding locations.
Mary Lausted our secretary had to resign. She has some family
commitments.
We will need to have a group meeting after the membership drive to
nominate someone else. This has taken more time than I ever imagined.
So if someone is interested some time is involved.
Sat. April 28, from 9-12 the group is planning to have a park clean up.
If anyone is interested bring work gloves, shovels, a weed wacker,
magnet on a stick to clean fire pits, they plan to cut some leaning
trees, and do some brush wacking.
May 5 the open house is set. There will be several stations for visitors
to stop at and pony rides and a petting critter for the kids. Buck board
rides maybe available for the adults.
Thanks Dee
