I reeeeeeeeally like this one.
One: we make it clear to Members that, as a condition of signing up, they will get up to twelve emails a year - one a month.
We already do this (suggest that we may send as many as one email per month...though we've only sent about five in the last four years), but we should be way blunt about it. People don't have to read them, but they ought to because we've got enough going on to fill a monthly email, what with all the sister sites and this one.
That would give us several thousand good reads a month.
NEXT STEP: Each month or quarter, we have a special day, like a New Member Day, or a Tell-A-Friend Day, or a All Member Login Day (and Time...to reach a new 'high' for number of concurrent visitors).
We promote those days through the All Member Email, the Water Cooler News, the Home Page Articles, the WisEvents.com calendar, and the Forums and Classifieds.
