WWII Military Plane Type - Looking

Can anyone help me with this - I am looking for a type of Navy plane that was used in the Pacific arena around 1945-46. I need to find the name of it for a project I am doing. All I can do is describe it:

I believe it was camouflage color, most probably Navy, a parachutist plane with no seats, and a small section in back where the chutes were kept. It is possible the pilot sat on the right? If not, then there would be a co pilot on the right. He would wear a tan cap and uniform at that time. It could have been one of those types that dropped guys behind the lines during war time, don't know the name of it.

The entrance to the plane would be on the right side just behind the cockpit - this door could be left open during take off and flight and may have opened out, with two pneumatic chrome bars at the top corners, holding it up and out. The plane flew very quietly, so you could talk to each other even with the door open.

If anyone knows what that plane type is, it would SO help me - I have been searching for it a couple years now and nothing seems to fit so far.

Thank you SOOO much!
